Engines / STW2 Starter Motor
« on: June 19, 2022, 01:41:29 PM »
Bought a Lister STW2 to possibly replace the one in my nephews narrowboat, unfortunately the seller didn't mention it would come without a starter motor, it would have but he lost it. Anyway the serial number is 178STW2MGR am I correct in assuming this engine will rotate clockwise looking from the flywheel end & it's standard & not a anti-clockwise engine?

I'm using the logic there is no A in the serial number, I've also manually rotated it over & I 'think' the valve sequence is correct going this way, is there any other information, images I can provide to make sure I'm correct?

General Discussion / 3 pin Temperature Sender
« on: August 15, 2021, 06:44:32 PM »
ST2W nephews engine, no gauges work, he has a Thornycroft panel but nothing is connected. On the outlet manifold on engine he has what looks like a 3 pin temperature sender, I suspected a live, a resistored feed to go back to the panel & a NO switch which closes on hot to put a light on the panel. However putting a meter across all 3 pins in any combination I get no readings at all.

So does anyone know if my assumptions are correct, have a wiring diagram for it & finally where are we likely to get a replacement?

General Discussion / Any Lister engine experts in Nottingham?
« on: August 13, 2021, 05:45:12 PM »
My nephew is currently stranded on the Cranfleet Canal in Nottingham, he has a Lister ST2W that we cannot keep running, he was coming down the Trent yesterday & the engine started to struggle & then died. I've been down today & there was a small diesel leak out of the fuel filter, so I cut the pipe back put on a new olive & tightened it up.

We thought we fixed it as it ran for 30+ minutes, but as soon as I took the tools back to the car it died & now we're struggling to get it to run more than 10 minutes. We've changed the main filter from the tank, we've taken the gauze filter out of the lift pump & given it a good clean. The small filter with the bleed (by the cylinder head) is being changed in the morning.

We can manually pump with the lift pump to get diesel to come out of the bleed on the top filter, but once running if we open the bleed no diesel comes out (no idea if it should)

I'm at the end of my knowledge of diesel engines at this point, is there anybody in the area who could take a look, or anybody with knowledge we can call to come out?

Any help would be appreciated.
