Original Lister Cs Engines / cracked piston
« on: March 30, 2020, 03:31:26 PM »
I have been having bad luck!
renewed the cylinder and piston Because the old piston gudgon pin broke and went threw the side of the cylinder.
I have set the bump to 0.095thu thinking there was to much firing compression. also checked the injection timing to what i thought was 20 Deg zig zag mark using the spill method using a short tube so I could see when the fuel stopped flowing. It turns out that there are two marks on the flywheel one mark 20 Deg but mostly been ground away, and the second mark 26 Deg that was the one I had been using!! Because I am running on WVO it was set even a Little further advanced.

I wonder If this is the cause of my second Piston only lasting for a week! before it cracked blowing out oil and fumes threw the breather.

Any Ideas Please

Has anyone increased the pop pressure of the injector on a Lister cs 8/1 running on WVO or is this not a good idea?

Original Lister Cs Engines / oil seal Lister CS8-1
« on: August 22, 2019, 05:47:30 PM »
can anyone tell me if it is possible to renew the two oil seals on a Lister CS8-1. one located above the oil pump (on the engine) and the other below the injector pump, without having to remove the flywheel and the housing over the governor.
is the oil seal pressed in from the out side or the inside of the housing.

Original Lister Cs Engines / startomatic
« on: January 24, 2019, 06:38:12 PM »
my startomatic has stopped working it has been starting and stopping when a load is switched on or off.
now it will not auto switch on. the only way that I can get power from the old Lister CS8/1 is to hold up the exhaust lifter put the switch on the control panel to manual and push the start button if you get what I mean.
I think that it may be a capacitor 50uf 350v DC
has anyone had this happen to you?
I will try to put on photos!

Original Lister Cs Engines / injector pump
« on: January 20, 2019, 05:16:48 PM »
I have been running my Lister CS 8/1 on cooking oil for about 850 hours without any problems until yesterday it stopped I striped it down to do a DE-coke when I went to start it today the injector pump rack was stiff. I mean that the Governor cant open and close the rack on its own. I think that was why it stopped but didn't see it at the time.

I have tried to get oil into the rack didn't help.

is this a easy fix? do I have to take the Pump apart?

Any ideas?

thanks in advance.

Original Lister Cs Engines / engine oil
« on: October 20, 2018, 02:37:16 PM »
what would be the best type of engine oil to use in an original Lister CS 8/1?
I am using straight 30 at the moment. I am just looking for expert advice.

1.  straight 30 or
2.  a multi grade and fit a oil filter.
in the Lister book it recommend oil change every 500 hours which is not a long time!

Original Lister Cs Engines / engine knock
« on: October 13, 2018, 11:51:31 PM »
help please,
I have a sharp loud knock in me Lister CS 8/1 SOM engine I have renewed the piston and pin + bush at top end, valves and seals also the big end, tested the new big end with plastic gauge 2.5 thu. I am at a loss to what the knock is. I had my hand in and felt the Governor is it rite that one of the weights should have play on it and the other one is tight up against the spring. there is a little back lash on the cogs.

has anyone had this problem?
