Listeroid Engines / 12/2 Ash -- Extended down time start up procedure
« on: March 20, 2011, 11:16:26 PM »
Hello All,
I have a 12/2 Ash that has not been run in over 2 years.  What prep is required before starting it again?

FYI, although I've been a forum member for a while, I'm still a Listeroid newbie and fairly specific instruction is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Listeroid Engines / Thermostat and heat storage questions
« on: August 18, 2006, 05:00:04 PM »
Could a few of you post pics of your thermostat installation?  I'd like to get a few ideas for my set up.

I also would like to get your insight on heat storage.

Specifically, do you cool the listeroid with a thermosiphon tank system and then transfer that heat via copper coils to your thermal storage tank?

Or could you just connect the listeroid directly to your thermal storage tank and heat the water directly?

Any ideas or suggestions on heat storage would be appreciated.

Lister Based Generators / Gen set mounting ideas and feedback needed
« on: August 06, 2006, 04:47:47 AM »
Hi All,
As many of you know I purchased Rockets 12/2 Ashwamegh with a 7.5kW gen head.  Thanks Rocket!

I'm a long way from having a generator shed for a lot of reasons.  Bottom line, I need to "temporarily mount the genset in the garage.

Of course I have a slab and if you're familiar with Rocket's gen set he built his on 4x6 white ash.  It seemed to run fine on the dirt floor of his barn which gave me an idea.

What if I build a border box out of 4x4s that is just a little bit larger than the wooden frame of the genset.  Screw this box to the slab.  Then place a couple of inches of sand in the box and place the genset in the box.  It couldn't walk away since it would be inside the sand box and maybe the sand would provide a little cushion and minimize the energy transfer to the slab.

Have I really over thought this and should just bolt or chain the frame to the slab?

Other thoughts?  Your insight is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Pigseye

General Discussion / Import questions - not EPA related
« on: May 04, 2006, 02:49:08 PM »
Total newbie here on importing have a few dumb questions to ask.

I live in WI and might want to import my own Lister.  However I'm not sure that it is practical or possible to do this remotely.  i.e. from Wisconsin.

If I can get a Listeroid to a NY port, how are all the financial transactions processed for port fees, custom fees, EPA fees, inspection fees, etc.?   Do the agencies that collect fees accept credit cards?

If I'm not physically there, am I more likely to be "taken?"  Or are charges fairly standard based on weight and processing required?

Once the fees are paid, I understand that I need to get a delivery company to pick it up and bring it to a trucking station near my home (St. Paul, Minneapolis, MN area).

Could someone give me a high level overview of this process?

Thanks,
Steve

Lister Based Generators / Harbor Freight 7200W Gen head
« on: April 20, 2006, 07:10:40 PM »
All,
What do you think of the 7200W gen head on sale at HF on sale for $279?  Find a 20% off coupon and get this head for $223.00.

http://www.harborfreightusa.com/usa/itemdisplay/displayItem.do?itemid=45416

Except for the 3600rpm, it looks like it would be a god place to start for a novice.

Thoughts?

Lister Based Generators / CVT for rpm and frequency control
« on: April 03, 2006, 04:32:58 PM »
Could someone comment on the possibility of using a constant velocity transmission (CVT) to maintain rpm and frequency control of a gen head with varying loads?

Would it be more accurate and consistent than a governer?

Thanks,

Lister Based Generators / Central Air and 15kW Genset
« on: March 31, 2006, 08:42:01 PM »
Hi All,
Great forum, already received some help on an non lister engine.

I live in Wi and am considering building a 15kW genset with a 24/2 lister.

One concern I have is that our home really heats up on hot summer days and our AC runs for a long time.  But generally this is only for a few weeks a year.  The rest of the time the AC is used very intermittently and we could manage it better to use it less.  But there is no way i can talk my wife into going off grid if we don't have simple and easy AC like she is used too. She loves it.  So i'm willing to accomodate since it means a bigger engine!  woohoo!

But does it really make sense to spin a 15kw gen head, with a 24hp Lister, 365 days a year, so you can meet the needs of 2 central air systems for 30 days a year?  I like the idea of hybrid boost set ups, but the complexity and cost really worry me.

My questions:

Is a lister 15kw genset over kill for my needs?

What are your throughts or recommendations?

Thanks
Pigseye

Changfa Engines / Thoughts on Changzhou Diesel Engine Model 1125GM
« on: March 29, 2006, 08:00:52 PM »
Hi Guys,
Brand new member but have been lurking for a few weeks.

I want to build a diesel generator but wanted to do it a little cheaper than I could with a Lister.  I've read about the issues with non-Changfa engines and was wondering if anyone had experience with this brand and model.

Changzhou Diesel Engine Model 1125GM

There on ebay being sold by a seller called Motors, generators, and stuff.  So far, the seller, Mohamed has been great and very patient and answering a lot of questions.  I do understand that most vendors can provide tremendous support before the sale and that can taper off quickly after the engine is delivered but he does come across as a stand up guy.

After reading the issues that people ahve had with non-Changfa engines, I'm more concerned with the Changzou brand.

Any insight to this engine and company would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Pigseye
