Generators / shot slip rings
« on: July 24, 2020, 07:22:31 PM »
gee, i just noticed the slip rings on my st head are severely worn given the hours on it. when i bought it i aligned the brushes (4) and all seemed well but i didnt notice the composition of the brushes.
It seems the brushes are made from aluminum oxide and pot metal. HA.
I think some carbon style brushes would be fine. anyone agree?

« on: February 14, 2018, 06:58:37 PM »
I would love to hear see feel another one running. Im in the western mountains.
so far, even though it still needs updates and love. its the best generator i've had. starts the most reliably. plenty of power.
has saved me money in fuel very quickly.
Just dont let it run out of fuel. lol

I think some sealer in a can may do the trick. "bars leaks" or similar. any thoughts ??

« on: December 29, 2017, 05:17:09 PM »
so glad i put the glowplug in last night after i shut it down for the nite. fired on the first compression stroke this morning and that was that.
Overall my new clone has been running well since i first fired it up.
Thank you to all of you who spent time documenting your experience. It has made my experience easier.

Listeroid Engines / adequate break in load
« on: November 29, 2017, 01:46:35 AM »
so its a 10/1. 7.5 kw head. im loading it it at 4300 watts. Is that enough load for ring break in or do i have to heat the forest? lol !! how many hours till it  hopefully stops the blueish smoke? about 6 hrs now on it. only a little better. my experience says rings have seated and something else is going on. oil level doesnt seem to high on the dipper. A fellow on here mentioned venting the crankcase fumes from the powershed and i think thats next.
 stinky

I think its the cam gears  that sound so terrible. very "clattery" a random sort of clatter that doesnt go away when valve lash is dampened by fingers.
tommorow morning i will take the door of and check the backlash and any wear pattern, but it didnt make me feel warm and fuzzy when i assembled it so i bet ill need an offset pin.
This is a new engine, 10/1, only has about 5 hours of runtime with only three or so hours pushing a 3800 watt load.
thanks to everyone involved in posting all this valuable information. its nice not to be running totally seat of the pans with my new powerplant.

Good day all.
Im new to the forum and to listeroids but not engines and equipment. recently i found a ten year old, never run 10/1. ive taken it all the way down, cleaned and checked specs and clearances, etc.
Today ill put fluids in it and a load and hopefully start it. The engine is extremely hard to crank past the compression stroke by hand and even the electric starter takes a pretty good load, slipping the belt until i brought the belt tension up to what i think is near max for a serp belt. yes im cranking it up to speed then releasing the decompression lever. lol
ive checked the bump clearance and it is in spec i believe @0.085
cranking by hand is like hitting a wall of compression, often kicking back.
this engine does not have the COV.
Any thoughts here or run it. I cant wait to get this online, ive wanted oneof these for some time now.
No powerlines here and my 50 year old K662 light plant is starting to sound  50 years old. Ha
