General Discussion / Help Needed for Bamfords Diesel info.

Hello to all,

 My brother recently bought a old gen set at a local fund raiser, its a two cylinder air cooled Bamsford diesel direct coupled to a 7.5 KW Sangamo generator.
 Its partially seized (crank turns about 180 degrees).
I can't find any information about it.
 I would like to find some information prior to tear down if possible.
Maybe some of the more seasoned members have some knowledge of these machines.

Listeroid Engines / Potential Valve Dammage ?

I've been playing with my new toy, an Indian built 12/2. (Bharti Brand)
 After polishing the lifter bowls, rods and threaded tips to the rods I noticed upon turning the fly wheel with the decompression levers in place that there seemed to be a slight sense of compression at TDC on both cylinders.
 After a little poking around I noticed that the castings for the decompression stops were too long and the pistons were indeed hitting the valves forcing the flanges on the exhaust lifters to bend.
 The fellow I bought my engine from mentioned that his had broke also on another engine but he wrote it off to poor craftsmanship. He made an exact duplicate and we discovered today that that was in fact the same problem that broke his original.
 It's a problem I wouldn't expect but it may be worth looking for.

Listeroid Engines / 6/1 Electric start

Hello All, Just wanted to share that I test started my 6/1 with an old Ford starter and a small block Chevrolet flex-plate mounted on the generator shaft and was happy to find that it had enough torque to push through the compression stroke and start the engine.
 Seems a simple enough install only had to machine a Browning style Q1-1.7/16" bushing to match the I.D. of the flex plate and mount it backwards on my existing bushing that holds my heavy flywheel on the generator.
