« on: September 03, 2012, 12:07:55 AM »
I am looking for serpentine style pulleys to mate my 12/1 to a 10kw ST head.       Anyone know the best place to go?

Thanks,
Cowboy

Listeroid Engines / Running a Listeroid on Bio-Gas (Methane)
« on: February 27, 2012, 02:25:40 AM »
I was reading about producing bio-gas (methane from cow manure digestion) and was wondering if anyone has ever tried this as a fuel or an injection combined with diesel or WVO or anything else on a CS type diesel.       I've seen some posts on trying natural gas or LPG,   and was just thinking out loud.     Anyone with experience/success with this type of thing?    I guess I could just buy a tri-fuel generator that's already prepped to use natural gas,    but it wouldn't have the life expectancy I need.

Lister Market Place (things for Sale) / LOVSON 6/1 with 3KW Head For Sale
« on: November 24, 2011, 05:34:58 AM »
With every cow we sold this year bringing 1/3-1/2 what it was worth and hay costing 2-3 times what it was worth I've got to raise some money,  so the LOVSON has to go.      If anyone could help give me an idea of what I should ask for it I would be grateful.      I don't want to under price it too much,  or over price it to where it can't be sold.    My plans are to list it on eBay on Sunday, but don't have the nerves for a "No Reserve" auction.     If anyone here would be interested in buying it before I list it, please be sure to contact me!     I can load it on your truck or trailer,  or would even consider delivery to you for expenses.

It is actually set up right now as a really BIG portable generator.     It has a box of 4-110 volt outlets wired to the head.     You can start it and make electricity right now.    It is on a frame of 1/4 inch angle iron on railroad ties.      It has a 55 gallon cooling tank on a homemade wooden stand, and an automobile muffler on it .      Gen set is somewhat primitive,  but not without it's own merits.      This unit is pretty much as it was when I bought it last year.    It has been run by me about 3-4 hours for fun, and to show friends, and the person I bought it from said it had only been run there about the same amount.

Link is to a facebook page I set up because I couldn't get pictures to load here.     If link doesn't work the facebook page is Cowboy's Listeroid.    If any of you could help me figure a good price it would sure be a big help.

Thanks guys,
Cowboy

I don't know exactly what size generator it will take to run my water well.     It says that the pump is 1.5hp.     I bet one of you guys out there can tell me how to determine minimum requirements.     I don't want to use the minimum, but I would sure like to know what it is.

Thanks in advance,
Cowboy

Listeroid Engines / What spare parts should I have at home?
« on: February 15, 2011, 06:36:56 PM »
If you had a limited budget (don't we all?) what spare parts would you want to keep at home?   What parts are the most likely to fail?   My birthday is coming up and I'm not sure what to ask for.

Listeroid Engines / How can I add a tachometer to my engine?
« on: February 11, 2011, 07:34:33 PM »
I would like to know what RPM my engine is running at.    I've read that they are most efficient at 600-650 RPM and can totally frag at higher RPM's.      My governor is a bit lazy,   and doesn't seem to respond to changing loads as well as I would think it should.     I would be heart broken if my 6/1 blew up,  but maybe worse if I was next to it when it did!   Still trying to sort this thing out and get it providing power here at the ranch.   Still have a few months before Hurricane Season gets here.    Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.   What's everyone else doing about this?    Thanks in advance.

Listeroid Engines / Best place to lift?
« on: January 11, 2011, 08:17:15 PM »
I need to do some modification to the frame that came with my engine and I need to know the best place to lift from.    I want to unbolt the engine and lift it, but not sure best place/way to attach a strap or ? to lift it without causing damage.    What's everyone else doing?   I have a loader on my John Deere, so the lift won't be an issue, just how to grab it.

Lister Based Generators / PMG on eBay
« on: December 17, 2010, 05:35:29 AM »
I asked this question in the generator section,  but maybe should have gone in the "Lister Based Generator" section.   Has anyone checked out the PMG's on eBay?   They're from a place in GA. that has pretty solid feed back.    I want to buy a PMG from Utterpower, but was told they are out of stock until who knows when.   I need enough surge to start my well pump, and PMG's just might be the ticket.   My 3 KW ST isn't the answer.   Can I run a 5 KW head with my 6/1?   The 5 KW ST says you need a 7.5 HP diesel for rated output,   but my guess is they were thinking air cooled high speed singles, not a CS Lister type engine.   What about if I keep my constant load in the 4 KW range, and just have the extra for a momentary surge?   Once the 1.5 HP pump starts the requirement drops way back down.   Any experience out there?

Generators / PMG on eBay
« on: December 17, 2010, 03:38:12 AM »
Has anyone checked out the PMG heads on eBay?    I'm really interested in a PMG and would like to buy one from Utterpower,  but have been told they are not available until some time in the future.     I'm really looking at them for their surge potential.    They say they can surge to just about double their rated output for a short time. If I can't get enough grunt to start my well pump I'm out of luck.   My system came with a 3 KW ST head and that's just not enough.   Will a 6/1 drive a 5 KW ST for the short surge I need to get well pump started?   The 5 KW ST I looked at said it needs 7.5 HP for full output,   but I don't think they had a Lister type single in mind when they said that, more like an air cooled Yanmar or clone.

Listeroid Engines / Nuts and bolts
« on: December 09, 2010, 06:39:47 PM »
A lot of these nuts and bolts don't seem to be quite exactly metric, and they don't seem to be quite exactly SAE either!   Does India have their own sizes, or is this a quality issue?   I use mainly Craftsman tools,   so I don't really doubt their quality.   Or should I?   Is there a special  India set of tools I need to find?

Listeroid Engines / No Oil Pump???
« on: November 27, 2010, 07:17:55 PM »
The Lovson 6/1 I bought a couple of weeks ago didn't have a manual from the factory.    Most of the on line stuff I'm finding from other brands seem to show an external oil pump that from the photos looks like it's below the fuel pump.    Or, is the drawing trying to show it is inside the crankcase?     I don't see one inside the crankcase either.    Is there no oil pump?    How does the top end get oil?    Do I need my eyes examined?    From my years of riding old Harley Panheads, I know that a bad oil pump is bad news,   let alone not having one!    The engine runs great, it's just making me nuts not being able to read up on it.

Listeroid Engines / Cooling Drum
« on: November 23, 2010, 06:07:42 PM »
Does the 55 gallon drum need to be sealed or vented?    Do you use anti-freeze in it, or just drain it in case of freeze?   Where can I get an operators  manual/service manual that will cover this Lovson 6/1 engine?    I'm like a kid at Christmas that got an electric train, and can't really play with it because he doesn't have the instructions and doesn't want to damage it!

Listeroid Engines / What oil should I use in my 6/1?
« on: November 21, 2010, 02:21:05 AM »
What little info I got with mine doesn't state any modern oil that I can figure.    I'm having a little trouble going old school "Brit"!   Is the 55 gallon cooling tank to be vented or sealed?   Don't mean to sound lost,   but I'm almost as "green" as my engine.
