Lister Market Place (things for Sale) / Lister Manuals
« on: November 22, 2011, 05:28:20 PM »
I have 2 Lister Manuals I picked up from the George H auction. I have no use for them as I have an 8/1 CS engine. I want to offer them here as this board has been helpful to me in the past.

1) Lister-Blackstone Types CD and CE Instruction and Illustrated Spare Parts Book. This Manual is in good to excellent condition. Not all grease printed up, etc.  $25 to your doorstep

2) Lister Air Cooled Type LD and SL Instruction Book and Parts List. Thuis manual is in fair condition. It is grease printed on cover and somewhat on back cover. It has some water stains on the tops of some pages. Pages are not torn, or mouse eaten, etc. It is very useable, but not a collector piece.  $20 to you

Best to e-mail as I am not here often

I figure US shipping will be 10 bucks, so I am not trying to make money, just get rid of stuff others can use.
I may trade for Original CS book. I have an 8/1.
Thanks

Oh, I have a pic of them, but am not smart enough to post it.

Things I want to Buy / Favorite "supporting vender"
« on: February 25, 2011, 05:08:01 AM »
Do we have any venders on here that also suppport the site? Either with cash, or information?
I need some CS parts. Pretty simple stuff. I'd like to support those that support us.
I am looking for a rocker arm grease cup. Some lines, external oil filter. Big question is.. are CS parts compatible with bio? (fuel system stuff?)
Thanks
Steve

General Discussion / Diesel Fuel Additive Study
« on: February 20, 2011, 07:31:10 AM »
I ran across this on a truck site and though it may be of interest.
In the US we have ULSD (ultra low sulfur diesel) thanks to the EPA. With this increased wear on fuel systems has been reported.
This comnpares many of the more common additives as to effectiveness. It is an easy read.
Thought it was cool and would pass it on.

Hmmm... how can I insert a PDF file? Pretty damn useless without the study.

Original Lister Cs Engines / Cooling system capacity
« on: December 31, 2010, 04:16:18 AM »
OK, I have a pretty cool setup for my lister to cool the engine.
It is a school bus heater assembly (the one from the back). So, it has a radiator (heater core), 12v blower fan, and a 12v circulating pump. Pretty stand alone. Just hookup and go.
Question is.. how much water capcity is needed to have in the system (total).
My engine will hold x gal, hoses and core x gal, so I just need ballpark total gallon and do the math.
I will hook up a small alt and 12v battery to power the system. I am not sure if I will do a constant ON on the fan and pump, or have it temp controlled.
I will use the heat to keep part of my barn warm in winter. I'm sure it won'd be 70 or anythig, but it should keep the chill out. Then, summer, switch hoses and it is a radiator system.
What do you think?
Wags

BTW, I will put a thermostat in the system for heat up. I could also put a simple ground sending unit at the T-stat to turn on pump and fan at 180 of whatever. It will shut off when temp drops. Not constantly circulating water then, saving wear on pump, and fan, and also warm happy engine.

Original Lister Cs Engines / 8/1 lister setup ?s
« on: December 24, 2010, 03:25:41 AM »
OK, the 8 is the winter project. Well, the couple of week project. I have an 8/1 CS. It runs. Seems to be in good condition.
1) How many use an oil filter on these engines? Link to the kit?
2) Fuel filter? Is it necessary? What are you guys using? I have a Caterpillar fuel filter head. It has TONS of capacity. Will this work as a flow through filter? Meaning enough suction from the injector pump to pull through it. I will mount the tank higher than pump obviously.
3) I have a donnelson air filter. Also tons big enough for the application.
4) Exhaust... well, seems simple enough. Do you guys step up on pipe size if running for over a couple of feet?
5) Cooling.... well, I have a 12v pump and could run that off an alt into a radiator if needed. I also was thinking of the thermo siphon method. Easier, simpler. Is it totally effective for an 8/1 putting out 4 kw ish? I want to start it, run it, come back 8 hours later and fuel it.
6) Hour meter. Is anyone using one? If so, what? Link? I'd like to actually monitor hours. Not just guess ish.

Thanks

Lister Based Generators / Lister and gen "frames" or "mounts"
« on: November 15, 2010, 04:54:38 AM »
Is there any reason I cannot weld up a 2" x 3"  .120 wall (or something similar sized) frame to mount the Lister engine to and mount the gen on a slide on the frame? Is there something I am missing? I have seen threads with 2000# of concrete to bolt the engine to?????
A frame, a couple of anchors to the floor and done??
Thanks

Original Lister Cs Engines / Starting struggles 8/1
« on: November 01, 2010, 02:29:31 AM »
I just got my 8/1 piece the other night. I got it started (after bleeding the fuel system, etc.). I actually sprayed just a squirt of starting fluid to get it to start. I let it run for a minute or so, tried to restart, did ok.
I went out today to try and start it. I figured it would be a breeze. Now, I just searched and found the thread on how to start. So, here goes...
I was turning on the gov to WOT, compression release, crank, swinging the compression release out, and it would not want to start, or maybe hit once. The instrutions say to let the gov. lever stay in the off position until after spinning up the flywheels, then swing the comprssion rleease lever out of the way. I have heard the injector firing. a tick, or cliick, etc. Is is possible I am flooding the engine with trying to start with the gov in the WOT position? Does a diesel flood?
Or is it likely that I have low compression or some other issue?
When it runs, it seems like the gov. is lazy. I read the threads about how to address that. Will this cause hard starting?
Thanks

Original Lister Cs Engines / 8/1 SOM? Is that right?
« on: October 23, 2010, 09:48:56 PM »
What is it? I was told it is an 8/1. Since it has a ring gear I believe it to be a start -o -matic. ??
Where would the starter mount? ls this a cs based engine? Is it the same as a 5/1 6/1 just incresed rpm? (obviously different flywheels?)
What size gen would it run? The rule is 8hp per kw, so that means a 4kw generator. However could I hook up a 5kw to the piece? If my load is not 5kw the gen should turn as easily as generator output? (required load) Correct?
Thanks
Wags

Hmm.. how do I put in a picutre?

S/N 450819 Does this mean something to anyone?

Lister Based Generators / Freq. and voltage
« on: October 21, 2010, 05:56:49 AM »
I am planning on (planning... investigating) using a cs10-2 or 12-2 as a source to drive a generator.
My questions are:
1) How good of a job does the governor do on these pieces? (meaning my fridge compressor turns on, does the rpm drop 100 rpm? or just keep going)
2) As/ if rpm's decrease/ increase the voltage output and frequency output (HZ) must change. How does this affect being tied into the grid?
3) How sensitive are my electronics to those changes? Meaning, will it kill my big screen TV, computer, etc??

The GF has a gen. she uses as a backup and the gov rpm's must be off as her clocks change a few minutes a day if she runs it continuous. (regular commercial gen bought for emergency use)

Thanks

Listeroid Engines / New Guy 10-2 info
« on: October 21, 2010, 05:30:30 AM »
Hey, I got activated finally. The spam world must be causing the site problems...
Anyway... I am looking for a 10-2 or 12-2 CS to run a generator.
I think I want a real lister. Not a clone.
Just wanted to introduce myself.
Any lines on a 10-2?
Thanks
Wags
