Listeroid Engines / Spec Number!
« on: July 10, 2010, 06:01:11 PM »
What does the spec number 5/1/21 mean on a Lister 5/1.  This one is definitley a Lister  ;)  The casting number is also 5-1-82 does the 5-1 part relate to it being a 5/1 Lister.

Thanks Chris

Original Lister Cs Engines / Visual differnces between a 3/1 and 5/1
« on: July 09, 2010, 06:38:59 AM »
I am interested in a CS which is 350 miles away.  The seller has sent me phone pictures of the brass plate.  Although not clear it does look like a 3 not 5 for the HP rating.  Are there any features on the outside of the machine that would differentiate a 5/1 from a 3/1 - thanks

Perhaps I could tell what model it is by the speed rating or RPM rating on the brass plaque...............are they different

Listeroid Engines / How rare are CS 5/1, 6/1 Listers?
« on: July 03, 2010, 09:00:14 AM »
I have been hunting a CS for about 4 weeks now and still nothing has come on the market that I can find.  There are loads of D's, A's, B's and 3/1,s but not a 5/1 or 6-1.  I think when one comes up it will go for £400 -500 as there is probably quite a que for one at the moment.

I have put my request for one on various sites/clubs and e-mailed specialists etc.  One contact came up with a Indian Built CS 6/1 attached to a 3KW ST3 alternator with veg oil conversion.  He also has a Real Lister SOM bottom end with flywheels and lots of spares and wants £750 for the lot - not for me but I can give you his details if anyone is interested.

Have they always been this rare?  I'm thinking about getting a classic tractor intstead and running a belt off that to saw wood, has anyone run a belt off a PTO?  Think you are into big money to run a belt off something like a Field Marshall........Can a tractor engine run a generator - I'll shut up now too many questions......

Original Lister Cs Engines / Info on the Lister/Listeroid range!
« on: June 26, 2010, 03:17:27 PM »
Hi, I am researching these engines from scratch.  I can find info on CS 5/1 and 6/1 but it stops there, did they ever make an 8/1 for instance or is that where Listeroids take over?  When did Lister stop making their engines.

Not to insult anybody which is why I am asking the question on this forum section but are Listeroids any good, have they been tried and tested long term.  The reason I ask is that I have just seen You Tube footage of them being made  :-[, and unpacked with quality problems!

Are Listeroids identical to the old Lister in terms of injectors/operating parts, or are they uprated for modern useage?  Thanks

Everything else / Which Lister Engine should I buy!
« on: June 24, 2010, 09:46:03 AM »
Hi I am new to stationary engines but love old engineering.  I use a 1962 Land Rover for daily use, and my toys are a Jaguar XK120,  a 1947 BSA M20, a Drascombe Longboat and I am building another Land Rover from scratch but my mechanical skills are limited - so I am learning fast!  :o

I would like a Lister for interest and to rig up to a saw bench to cut small logs.  The reason I have decided on a Lister is that they seem to be common, good spares back-up and cheaper compared to other makes.  I have followed a few A's and D's on E-bay to gauge prices but I think a CS 5-1 would be my first choice (they don't seem to come up to often).  The trouble is I have a narrow passageway and would have to knock down the back of the garage to get a CS into the back garden whereas I believe a Lister D is narrower.  So finally the questions.....

Would a Lister D be suitable to rig up to a saw bench and capable of chopping small logs e.g 10" thickness.

I would really like a Lister CS 5-1 but my passageway is 34" wide MAX can I take anything off the engine to make it narrower.  Looking at some technical drawings they seem to be 37" wide i :-\

Cheers Chris
