As a hobbyist, I built this to power my workshop and for emergency backup power by following the advice found here - thanks gang! Works well to power my welder. No emergency use needed - yet. I has used less than a tank of fuel, so it is probably not or barely broken in.
It is located near Atlanta, GA, USA. I am posting on Craigslist locally and we'll see what happens.

Anyone know where to obtain a Listeroid-type cast (or forged) valve covers? I have heard of them but haven't run across them, yet..

Listeroid Engines / Changeover valve surprise
« on: March 14, 2008, 12:29:04 AM »
Tonight I was running the 10/1 briefly to test whether the valve train noise is affected by closing down the cold clearances. (it is, slightly) Just before shutting down I thought "Heck, I've never opened the changeover valve, I wnder if it changed the sound". So I reached over, leaning past some clutter and had my head next to the engine about lined up with the valve and opened 'er up...  :o

Why didn't I see that coming?  :P

Everything else / I need a welder
« on: October 14, 2007, 03:11:05 PM »
OK, new guy questions again...

I am about to hook up a muffler system for my 10/1 and it looks like a good excuse for a welder purchase. I also will want to build a frame for the engine. Now for the funny part - I have no welding experience!   ???

FWIW, from my friend Mr. Google it seems MIG would be a good system, using flux-core wire.

I am cheap, but rationally so - I don't want to pay less and then buy again, if you know what I mean. So, any opinions?

Engines / How to polish the connecting rod journal?
« on: September 18, 2007, 02:11:53 AM »
OK, I had one of those 'accidents'.  >:(  My connecting rod bolt dinged the journal on the crankshaft and made a dent!  :'(  It's a single thread's edge impression, not so much that I am sobbing but too much to ignore. I understand there may be ways to polish out the journal finish. So, what do you all think? Should I take up knitting or can it be fixed? Anyone tried the utterpower shoestring trick? I could use some advice here, especially anything that can be accomplished with the flywheels still on. Double especially where to get the materials and what to shop for...

Anyone?

Bueller?

Listeroid Engines / Anyone making an Power Anand order soon?
« on: September 12, 2007, 12:55:18 AM »
I would sure be interested in ordering a set of spares. If I could team up with someone else doing the same, we can combine the orders and take advantage of reduced shipping. (I would think) Has this been tried before? Is anyone interested?

Engines / Listeroid parts?
« on: August 24, 2007, 08:09:06 PM »
OK, so now I've got my Power Line 10/1 and it's apart - mostly. So far, it's proven to be pretty much like they say - reasonably nice outside, very gritty inside. It sat for a couple of years so there is some surface rust in the cylinder  :( hopefully that will hone out. But with so much grit inside, I think I'd best be replacing the bearings including the TRBs.

Does anyone have a US part # for the TRBs, or is that a take-it-to-the-bearing-shop deal?

Also, is there a US source for gaskets and/or other parts for the 10/1? I think it has a 4.75" bore...

And, is there someone with a gibb key remover available now? Mike Montieth's out of stock.  :-[

Listeroid Engines / Listeroid bolt torque specs?
« on: July 24, 2007, 12:03:38 AM »
Can someone point me toward a listing of the torque specs for the important pieces of a Listeroid? I'm itching to take off the head of my new 10/1 Powerline, but the manual is mighty thin in this area.  ???

Generators / ST Gen heads - any difference?
« on: June 11, 2007, 03:27:31 AM »
Ah, I have questions!

I've been to Utterpower and read about why the PS ST head is the best. How does that tally for folks who own them? Does a plastic fan really affect the reliability? Is the weight a real factor? As an example locally a fellow sells an ST-5 head which weighs about 250lbs and has a plastic fan. I think the PS unit is said to weigh 295lbs and has a metal fan. I'd guess the PS unit has better bearings? or at least better grease? Is there any correlation between clean waveform output and weight/price?

So, other than buying them and trying them out, how does one pick a good ST gen? Are there good indicators to watch for? To watch out for?

BTW, I use the PS unit as the example due to the wealth of detail on the Utterpower site, not to point to it in particular...  :D

PS, do they really use "Yak fat"?

Original Lister Cs Engines / Found an original Lister 12/2, rats!
« on: June 03, 2007, 11:16:22 PM »
So, how does a guy like me, an ordinary average joe with no discernable luck, come across an original Lister 12/2 and not immediately grab it? And what's my problem anyway!

The darned thing is at Thunder Bay, Ontario and I'm in Atlanta, GA! A great fellow emailed me and sent pictures - it's from a fishing lodge and comes with the original 7.5kw generator and frame. I'd guess it weighs probably 1600 lbs, maybe? So, how do I get something like that shipped 1300 miles without breaking my meager budget? I'm open to suggestions!

Also, can anyone tell me when it was made? The serial is cs36363.

BTW, here are the pictures:
