Listeroid Engines / STARTER/CHARGER PARTS
« on: August 17, 2016, 07:18:08 PM »
Since the local Hotlanta temperatures have been over 90F for 33 days or so and for us seniors too much of a good thing is toooooo much  :-[,I  have postponed building the covering shed until it is safe to install lag screws and pound nails and focused on the parts to install a good strarting/charging system as follows :
1, STARTER GENERATOR CLUB CAR EZ-GO GOLF CART 250cc-400cc 1012316 101833701 from Rare Electical
Item # 120952288195
2. With pulley removed, actual shaft dia is 0.685” /17.399mm with key extra height.
3. Bored out 5/8ths diameter  shaft hole to 17mm and the
4. Steel pulley fits including the keyway: Oregon Steel. Lock washer can not be used;Purple thread locker.
5.Yamaha Golf Cart Voltage Regulator OE # J10-81910-10
6.12V 150A CONTINUOUS DUTY SOLENOID RELAY FOR GOLF CARTS 300A IN RUSH 1114208
7.OLS 12V DC 25 Amp On/Off Rocker Switch IP65 Waterproof 3P SPST Red LED Indic. My thinking is that the control current for the solenoid is low enough to allow the use of a low amperage control switch
8 3" channel iron to be cut the width of the I beam mounts
9. Since no suspenders will hold anything up, I neglected to mention a V belt to fit ;D

Honda Motor Co. said it’s introducing a motor for hybrid vehicles that won’t need heavy rare-earth minerals, as Japan’s carmakers look to circumvent sourcing the materials from China.

Magnets developed by Daido Steel Co. without heavy rare-earth minerals will be used starting with the Freed minivan scheduled to begin sales this fall, Honda said in a statement Tuesday. Toyota Motor Corp. and Nissan Motor Co. have also taken steps to reduce their reliance on the materials after China restricted exports beginning in 2010 amid diplomatic disputes with Japan.

China accounts for more than 80 percent of global production of the group of 17 rare earths used in everything from smartphones to electric cars to cruise missiles. The scarcity of rare-earth metals and uncertainty of China’s export policy are major concerns, Atsushi Hattori, deputy general manager at Daido’s specialty steel solutions department, told reporters Tuesday in Tokyo.

The decision by China in 2010 to suddenly restrict exports sent users scrambling for supplies of lanthanum, neodymium, cerium and other rare earths. Major suppliers that have developed rare earth-free motors to reduce cost and reliance on China for procurement include Yasukawa Electric Corp., Mitsubishi Electric Corp. and Nidec Corp., according to Hiroshi Ataka, an analyst at IHS Automotive.
Honda First.
Honda and Daido Steel said they’re the first companies to introduce magnets with the high heat resistance required for use in hybrid vehicles that also contain no heavy rare-earth minerals. Honda rose 3.3 percent as of the midday trading break in Tokyo, while Daido Steel climbed 3 percent.

There is some hope on the horizon,

Listeroid Engines / BACK
« on: June 23, 2016, 05:48:18 PM »
By the grace of God I am looking down on the grass; not up ;D and the stroke recovery is in in hand as is the blood pressure so it is time to get the Roid electric starter worked out. My question for the experienced in this project is this: what golf cart starter generator is reliable and has reversible polarity features? I plan on V belt drive to the integral smaller pulley outboard of the flywheel.
Many thanks, overbore

Listeroid Engines / Advice, please
« on: June 23, 2015, 07:59:32 PM »
AT 78.8 I am just recovering from stroke #2 ( not as in bore and stroke ) but as in coronary :-[ so I am going to plan on selling my JKson10/1 complete with a GA Generator 5kwPMG as a complete package, including 8groove belt pulley/drive belt, Racor fuel filter, SS HX, primary side with header tank, SS lines and two gages. 190F thermostat with 3/16 hole, secondary cooling ( for miserable days like today) ) with header tank, cooling fan and water pump, buy pass valves and quality hoses. Less than one hr of initial run time only. Unit is bolted to I beam frame with McMaster Carr vibration pads under securing it to heavy pad. Comes with portable engine lift and some spares. Yes you may come look /see but no, In view of health I can not deliver. Any serious buyers here? Atlanta metro area

Listeroid Engines / GASSIFICATION
« on: December 08, 2014, 04:04:08 AM »
has the potential to be a reliable, inexpensive and time proven, since 1920's, practical fuel source augmentation. What I am thinking of is that in time of normal fuels being in short supply, a bio-gas fuel ( hydrogen) enhancement to our WVO and base stock fuels could be very useful to the self sufficient.  Anyone care to move the ball down the road?  GEK Labs has commercialized gassification so the combination of their and "our"technologies is not exactly inventing the laser saber. GEK TOTTI Gasifier Kit could be good staring point; no, no fiscal ties of any nature.

Thanks for considering and positive thinking. No, I am too old to get into something new.

Listeroid Engines / COMPUTER ALERT
« on: December 03, 2014, 03:43:32 PM »
A sad tale of woe to share as last week some##^^@@@!'s with industrial strength malware got past Zone Alarm and Super Anti-Spyware to attack my MS system resulting in a wipe out of not only my Word files, including all the Roid tips and data, but also the hard drive back up was wiped out back to 2009!  In hindsight a Barracuda firewall would have stopped them but I do have a hard partial manual typed up and in a binder. Protect your selves now as the evil is loose >:(

Listeroid Engines / EMERGENCY FUEL SOURCE
« on: March 15, 2014, 05:06:53 PM »
First, these comments are extracted from a post this week on www.SurvivalBlog.com so go there to read the entire article. With the world quickly getting itself into a major problem, this info should be archived for emergencies/

The author stated that beyond the veggie oil option for us, he uses a triple  filtered mixture of 85% recycled engine oil and 15% unleaded gasoline. Since our injection systems are similar to the single rail fuel system of the older Cummins that my son uses, I believe the fuel mixture ratio is valid as I have used that mixture in the 12 valve 5.9 Cummins.
Further, ATF may also be used in the brew but NEVER brake fluid.  If the worst happens and there are abandoned vehicles on the road, they become doner sources for usable fluids of you drain the fuel tank bottoms.  Stock up on filters to make your own fuel brew but I suggest a 2 micron final fuel filter to protect our 'Roids.

Listeroid Engines / GRID DOWN DRILL
« on: September 24, 2013, 04:34:55 PM »

Here's a link to one of the stories about the drill: http://www.offthegridnews.com/2013/08/28/power-grid-down-drill-to-be-conducted-by-us-government/

This simulation 12 / 13 Nov is great time for us to see how "off grid ready" we really are. If we have weaknesses
this is a great time to blend in and validate our abilities and gear.

Listeroid Engines / MY HOSE LEAKS!
« on: September 18, 2013, 09:10:00 PM »
;) No that one but my 1" flex ss line from the heat ex down  to the Roid. There is a 50-50 antifreeze mixture inside and the leak is not at the fitting. The ss unit is one year old the other one is 77 ;D.  I have cleaned of the bottom 12" of the hose and applied hose bandage but it still leaks-slowly. What are your suggestions? Many thanks,

Listeroid Engines / Fuel Headder Tank
« on: February 16, 2013, 05:14:22 PM »
Since I have run a fuel header tank system on a 6 cyl Perkins marine engine, I became fond of that means of keeping a reliable supply to the pump and injector(s). Does anyone here run a supply tank to the Listeroid tank?  My desire is to fill the header fuel tank form my larger diesel storage tank with no shut down required.

Many thanks,

Listeroid Engines / Cooling Stuff
« on: June 13, 2012, 09:42:19 PM »
With great inputs from the members here such as Romar, I have about finished my cooling system and have some info to share:

1. Since I am using 1 1/8" cooling hoses and fittings, a Honda Civic 92-00 aluminum radiator has 1 1/8" inlet and outlet fittings.  $33 on e-buy.
2. I am using a 316SS heat exchanger to better resist outdoor corrosion ( 52 plate)
3. I have added a T for system drain near the cooling pump to drain secondary loop cooling water in winter; primary loop will have 50-50 antifreeze; NAPA 3/32" bypass hole in 190 degree thermostat--.
4. I have added a by-pass valve near the radiator so that if I need to run the 10/1 in February for house power, there is no need then for the radiator or cooling circulating pumps as the thermosyphon cooling from the elevated 55 gallon tank should suffice.
5. McMaster-Carr three speed 16" 115V / 0.8Amp cooling fan on order for summer uses; power to be tapped right off pmg.
6. Heat ex, radiator, Racor fuel filter and 55 gallon tank all mounted apart for engine/generator to reduce vibe effects.

7. Do not run your cooling lines near wife's  prize rose bush-- my arms are the second place winner in a "territorial dispute" with a very thorny bush :( :( :( Had to place behind bush at ground level)

Romar, thanks again!!

Listeroid Engines / Generator Connections
« on: March 20, 2012, 05:33:27 PM »
I have just started the final generator connections at the gen terminal box whose connecting studs are about 7/32".  Fine but my long run of cable is #4 to the panel about 50 feet away.  That cable has 3/8 ring terminals double swaged at the generator end so the problem was how to get a good long term connection for about 50Amps at 240 volts onto a small  7/32 stud.  My answer was to purchase a 3/8" copper ground rod, cut pieces to about 1/2" long, then drill  7/32 holes in the centers and attach the ring terminals with copper washers over the ground rod with dielectric grease.    The other problem was that the hole in the generator terminal box was far too small for the 3/4" flex conduit fittings.  McMaster-Carr has a 1" diameter rough grit grinding point/ wheel that solved the problem of how to enlarge a hole that has no center. Hope this adds to your info pool.
