Petteroids / Re: 6 HP air cooled engine
« on: October 06, 2010, 08:19:38 PM »
I believe it would not only be foolish but dangerous to run one of these engines above the rated speed...

Some of these engines are scary at 1000RPM.

It could be done with a lot of modifcations, but why?

Just get an engine that fits the parameters you are trying to acheive.

If you proceed make sure you video it and stand WAY BACK!

I think a turbo charged lister/oid in my F350 crewcab is a much better idea!

Meanwhile the rest of the world continues to enjoy the progress of industry without hesitation.

A few (and I emphasize few) unregulated small engines will not change anything to affect this planet.

If we, as a global population, do not turn the planet into a wasteland via a nuclear or other massive means of destruction, our tiny littlle footprint of carbon based fuel usage for a couple hundred years is meaningless with regard to the survival of our species.

Instead of consuming resources regulating this kind of thing, develop ideas to make a change.

500 years from now this will not even be topic of any consequence

Bet I stepped on a few toes.......

Generators / Re: What is the gen head of choice?
« on: September 20, 2010, 11:52:26 PM »
I live in Sun Lakes which is near Phoenix, AZ.  I don't need a gen here,  but my future plans will require one.

Thanks for the help.  There are some chinese heads still available, none locally that I have found yet, and a few from Joel who had a link on George's website.

But he has no pulleys.... Need a 11.25" one.  George advertises them for about $200.00 but he hasn't got back to me..

Hmmm ST plus 200, maybe I should look for a PMG and a smaller/less expensive/more readily available pulley.

Looking back at all this maybe I should have bought a surplus or used gen set to rebuild.  ;D

I still need to build a skid and mount everything, including the cooling system yet to be determined

My SO thinks I should build a trailer to haul it around also!

Maybe I will get er done in another 3 years.

Generators / What is the gen head of choice?
« on: September 16, 2010, 11:05:31 PM »
Hello All:
I have been away from the forum for a while....  After 3 1/2 years I finally am almost done with my 14/1.  Now I am looking for a gen head.  Any suggestions?  Reputable dealers?

Thx, Jim

Engines / Re: Injection Pump
« on: March 01, 2010, 07:37:43 PM »
As the plunger moved up during cranking there was a noticable increase in discshrge from the pump.  I realize this is probably not very significant but thought it should be mentioned anyway.

Oliver90owner:

I guess I was using the wrong terminology.  With the spring an valve top removed and all other parts in place, it seemed to pump OK.

When the spring and valve top are replaced the pumped fuel is almost non existant.

Combuster:

I'll give a shot.  The new pump is on the way, and I have a long list of priorities, so this one always seems to get pushed way back.
Going on 3 years now... Just wish I could get it to fire to rejuvinate my spirits.

Thx,Jim

The seal looks like it has overtightened,  but I had no replacement.

I have ordered a new pump.  I realize the discharge is small... but it was almost non-existent.

I will clear this hurdle, it is just a little (no,a lot) frustrating.

It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to crank it for 2-3 minutes to se if there are any results.

Where did you find that seal?  Any part numbers?

Thx, Jim

Generators / Re: So, I found this little generator in the bush...

Saw one very similar to this only 3 cylinders in Jerome, AZ.

He wanted $10 to start it up..... Air start,  it was worth every penny.

Something I will never forget.

OK It's official.  It is now a dog chasing a tail.

I can only assume that the fuel is leaking by internally, small crack. not sealing properly, etc.   I tore down the pump again and did not see anything that could cause the problem.  Also carefully rechecked plunger alignment and everything else I could think of.

The only option I see now is to try a new pump.

If I decide to try a new pump does anyone have recomendations?

I have checked the barrel alignment twice, but I will check one more time.

Stan:  I could try testing the injector out of the engine, but the discharge from the pump is so small that I would have to manually fill the line from the pump to the injector with a syringe, and hope I didn't lose any fuel puttting it back together.  The discharge from the pump with the rack full open is something less than a drop.

I guess I can take the pump apart ONE MORE TIME and check all the ports/pathways and alignment while I am at it.

Thanks for the input.

Thx Stan.

Thanks Stan.

I finally found it on George's Website... under the Lister section.

I disassembled the pump, found nothing wrong, reassembled and reinstalled the pump, discharge still very small.

Replaced plunger and barrell assy... no help.

I must be missing something.  Seems to pump OK until I install the metering valve and spring.

Truly frustrating.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thx, jim
