I have to wonder if the configuration of the stator windings in ronmar's st are what bschwartz rewired his to. I followed that stator rewiring thread, very intriguing. I could live with the groan I think, but the see-sawing voltage (the less loaded leg going very high) scares me and keeps me from using the generator as much as I had hoped. Some day maybe I'll rewire my stator too.

Man I hate those crickets. If it wasn't for the fact that my well pump is 240v I would have it wired for 120v because the imbalance hum and vibration is pretty bad but YMMV.

I'm sure there are some well made water pumps but this has got to be the tenth Metro pump I've heard of failing within 15 min, looking at vtmetro's pics you know its got to be some kind of a joke.



Thermosyphon would be the easiest and there is nothing mechanical to break.

Welcome to the forum. I think the water pumps are just a gimmick. I live within four hours hours from two Listeroid dealers and that water pump almost got me to buy the Metro. Glad I went with the Anand and learned to thermo-syphon from the beginning. I saw a listeroid twin on youtube with what looked like a Chevy small block water pump mounted to a steel plate with hose nipples welded or threaded to the other side of the plate. I would do something like that instead of trying to repair or reengineer the Metro pump if I wanted a belt driven water pump, imagine how long an automotive pump would last on a slow speed engine, more than 5 minutes I can bet.

You'll have to stick with what ever rpm you get at 60-62 hz, thats fixed by the pulley sizes. If you don't have 650 rpm thats the way it is. I have an Anand 6/1(CMD) and a generator and pulley from a Metro dealer(Sam) so because the Metro flywheels are a bit bigger than the Anand flywheels I get 675 rpm @ 62hz and that's fine with me :). I have an old dial tach that's very accurate, what are you using to measure rpm?

Do you have the belt on the smallest pulley? The bigger the gen pulley size the faster your engine will turn at 60hz. I would also think that the slower the engine speed the more lazy the governor will be.

The rectifier has its own AC source called the Z winding in the stator, that AC is converted to DC by the rectifier and sent to the field/rotor through the slip rings to magnify it. The field/rotor in your ST is an electromagnet where the field in your PMG uses permanent magnets. We're looking for the wires that come out of the stator like you rewired on your PMG for Y and Delta. Hopefully someone familiar with your style gen will chime in. The terminal block may be where we need to look.

Good job on the PMG.

I was expecting something more typical of ST generators which usually have a flimsy box with a plastic or fiber board with evenly spaced studs sticking up out of the board to configure with straps. The pictures are of the rectifier that makes dc voltage to magnify the field, it looks like there is a terminal block, that's probably where the stator wires go. Its hard to say with those pictures.

Yes, parallel is 120v, series is 240. If you have 4 separate terminals or lugs to configure your good, but if its center tapped then the stator wiring u3,u4 are soldered together inside the generator and one wire comes out of those as the neutral and you would have to split that and bring them out as u3 and u4. If your already familiar with utterpower, all of this info is there some where, probably under generator or ST.  If it wasn't for my 240v well pump I would have mine parelleled and I wouldn't have to worry about balancing loads.

Welcome Skip!

First thing is, 4k is only 2k per leg. If your compressor is drawing 15 amps or better you're maxing out or overloading that leg(15x120=1800w). If your ST4 has the U1,U4,U3,U2 terminals(labels may me different) tie the U1,U4 together and the U3,U2 terminals together to get the full rated output at 120v. If its center tapped you would have to go in and split the stator windings. Also your 6/1 @ only 610rpm is probably maxed out itself and thats not to mention the governor. Hope I got that right its late :P

Oops. I should have mentioned that fuel will only flow out of the top of the injector when the plunger is down because the spill port needs to be uncovered. I also meant to get more specific on the check valve, thanks Ron. I have to admit that I usually just crack the banjo bolt then the injector line and rock the hell out the engine but for newbs it would be better to bleed all the way at first.
