"Early Thursday more than 2.4 million people were without power, with at least three counties reporting near complete blackouts and 10 showing that more than 50% of customers were in the dark, according to poweroutage.us."

Hope everyone survived the storm in good shape.  Just saw this post from Florida Piwer and Light and thought I'd share it.  They are saying parts of the grid need to be rebuilt, not restored, and power could be out for an extended period.  Hang in there folks!

Samo,

On that head, you might try removing it and putting it in the oven for an hour or so at 400 - 500 degrees.  (The wife will love it!)  Be sure to clean as much oil off of it first as it will smoke A LOT.  Put it in with the oven cool and allow it warm up as the oven does.  "Bake" it good.  Remove it from the oven and quickly bolt it back onto the engine so its well secured as you're reefing on it.  Put a large wrench on the COV and hopefully it will give.

If it still won't budge, then repeat the process but this time try using some dry ice to quickly cool ONLY the change over valve while the head is still really hot.  Keep the dry ice away from the iron because you don't want to crack it.  The ice will shrink the valve and that might be enough to get it to let go.

That's what I'd do.

Good luck!

Steve

Original Lister Cs Engines / Re: Lister CS 6/1 as form of rehab

Ajaffa1,

Beautiful job so far!  Perfect choice for a rehab project.  As Glort pointed out it's 99% mental and I'm sure you will be back to normal soon.  One thing to keep in mind is nerve damage takes a very long time to heal.  It's not something that is gone is a few weeks.  A year or two would be an appropriate timeframe to expect.  Having suffered a neck broken in multiple places, you could easily have suffered cord damage that will take much longer than expected to heal.  It's a pain in the back side, but it is how it is.  You might ask your doc about supplementing with vitamin B because the nerve sheaths are primarily made up of the stuff.

Regarding your Lister, what did you end up using to get the crankcase so clean?  I have multiple old engine projects to tackle at some point so the knowledge would be very helpful.

Again, beautiful work!

Wishing you the very best in your recovery and an excellent 2018!

Kind regards,

Steve

Welcome Will,

Nice install!!!!

Hopefully you folks will not be visited by the likes of Irma anytime soon.  That being said, being prepared is prudent imho.

Kind regards,

Steve

Thanks for the info.  Glad the power is back on.

Trashy mess????  The vid is 4 seconds long....  I don't see any mess in the vid at all.

Thx for the update.  Glad things are getting back to normal!

Steve

Gary,

Glad you guys didn't have any damage!

I'm curious how you like your metal building?  (I'm assuming that's yours in the background).  Just wondering how its worked out for you since you've had it?  Would you buy another one or would you put up a traditional framed metal building if you had to do it all over again?

Any thoughts/info would be appreciate.

Thanks,

Steve

I agree with glort!

Regarding the fan on your setup, does it run all the time or is it thermostatically controlled?  If it runs all of the time, do you have a speed control on it?  I'm wondering what the power source is, the z winding or 110v?

Thanks for the info!

Nice setup.  Now we just need to teach you to make longer vids so we can enjoy the sounds and just watching.

I bet your neighbors are jealous.

Please keep the updates coming...

Again, glad you guys are safe and doing well.

How big is the genhead on the 20/2?  Does it have an automatic voltage regulator or is one of the manual type?

How much fuel is it using per day?  Is it running 24/7 or are you shutting down at night?

I bet mama is more than a little happy with your antique engine hobby about now!  Glad it's working as planned.

Cool!  Glad to know you guys are doing okay.

Would love a video of you just turning slowly in a circle to get a better sense of what things are really like on the ground.  Have they given you any info regarding when power will be restored?

Glad things are working and you're safe!
