i would call myself busy if i started either of my twins on a cart like that.

vfd with single in 3 phase out is another option. vfd = variable freq. drive. practical machinist.com has a section devoted to making 3 phase from single and all different ways to do it. rpc is easy and cheap, there is a way iwth transformers, phase perfect (pricey i hear), i would stay away from static once the smoke comes out it wont go back in

pops has a 12/1 1000rpm and gets 4 hrs per gallon at 5k on 1/3 dino, wvo, hydraulic. i have 2 twins and have not run long enough to get actual figures. sounds to me your roid is hungry for some reason.

maybe instead of trying to remove a smell from the exhaust feed it wvo and let it smell good. burnt fries over dino anyday.

just thought i would ask. i also run a 7.5 rpc. its a1969 marathon and if i  remember correctly it pulls 6 or 7 amps idle. never has run hot at most warm. it does hum (an ac growl) when idling but as soon as i load it it goes to the tune of a normal motor. i have no cnc so balance is not so critical although it is close. my budget has no phase perfect in it and for under a $100.00 i have had 3 ph. i did score many parts next to nothing, not the norm for me. i run a 2 hp rpc on my bp mill also. in a 40 hr week i believe my power bill will go up 20.00 or so. RCA i cant imagine were all that heat came from (wasted energy i understand) but i never had that issue. from the gurues of electrons you use 1.73 amps single phase for every 1 amp of 3 ph. i do know there is no free lunch maybe part of the loss is heat. glad to hear you got your set up running cooler (more efficient).

RCA did you have power factor correction (pfc) caps or even a balanced rpc. unless monsters rpcs are usually not that bad power wise even unloaded. i do not know what your set up was but i do know 3 phase can be made very cheap from single using the rpc design properly balanced or even a vfd.

general rule of thumb is 2hp per 1k. of coarse theres give and take. when the exhaust is smoking steady you have hit the max

i forgot to add the bigger riods with a big st head power the range/oven, ac, hot water, clothes dryer, and a few others with no issue. my power may never work the fancys in a black out but i will GETTER DONE    thats all folks

posts gone wild  2 pole@ 3600 rpm = 60 hz  4 pole @ 1800 rpm = 60 hz  6 pole @ 1200 rpm = 60hz  ect ect ect . rpm / # of poles = frreq.  some say st heads produce poor power. so does every other joe blow on the block .  there are ways to "clean up" the juice from an st head but a lot is blown way out of proportion.  if marathon tells you watt you want to hear jump on and hang on. for the average back up power the basics geter done. in hard times the tv, video games, and computer is not not on the top of my list for gettin by. electronics are the most finiky about "clean power". if the pump gives water ,the fridge stays cold, and the sump pump does its job how much could you ask for in a power out?

mig uses a wire vs a rod. mig is the best for sheet metal. it must be clean, no paint rust or grease. less heat means less warp. i use mig for just about everytihing except thick steel . the arc welder gives better penatration on thick stuff

go with the 75/25 gas flux core is nasty., try to go .023 with the wire roller and liner. if you try .035 on 16 ga or thinner you will find that if all edges are not preped perfect you will back up and pop.

cshuerm  your portable penny pincher wil be hard to beat. glad to hear the gov and volt regulator are all in sinc.  it is not uncommen for a gassie screamer to suck down a gal / hr for 10 to 15 k. a roid running 210f  has no fever at all. the coolant system may belcht puke or watt ever but the beast is happy hot. you cannot cook the oil in the crankcase it will never get that hot even with no coolant at all.  run er hard any compression ignition design tends to last longer if run hard.  not beat to death and maintained but not to work unloaded or at idle any length of time. there have been cases where the paint was baked off the head due to coolant failure. sometimes a head gasket sometimes not, very rare a split between the valves (anyone ever heard that). often times no replace of the o ring on the bottom side ofthe liner. spin up throw the decomp, fuel and the rest is in the BETTER HOMES AND GARDENS
