Zack,
I would check all your possibilities, planes, trains, ships and road trips.  Make a working vacation out of it.
I'm in Michigan.  So let me know if you decide to pass it up.  I would be glad to take it off your hands. ::)
Good Luck,
Tim

Just like most North Americans think burning natural gas to heat your house and hot water is cleaner and more friendly to the envirenment than burning wood.  ???

I have to agree.  I  think the EPA thing is a bunch of huey.  I think they have there place for certain things like power plants and big industry polluting.  BUT, stationary diesel engines?
That can burn cleaner and more environmentally friendly than any B&S.  Especially when burning WVO.

Rcavictim,  Do have any pictures to post of your wind turbine?  My wife would kill me if I tried a project like what your discribing.  She says I have enough junk (treasures) as it is.  :'(

I like the idea of a diesel snow blower.  I've been toying with the idea of a diesel push lawn mower.  I have an old 2 cycle lawnboy that I thought about converting somehow to diesel.  I got a new used B&G last summer for $10 at a garage sale.  It was only 2 years old and the lady said it didn't run.  I figured I could get it running.  When I got it home I put gas in it and about the third pull it started.  ;D  Runs like a champ now.

I've also wondered if anybody has thought about useing a detroit diesel 6.2 or parts of it to make a new engine for a generator set.  There are a lot of these out there for sale, especially the military surplus ones that come out of hummers.  Also I've seen on auction some of the older Hurcules motors that will run on multi fuel.

If a new Lister or reproduction of the original (roid) was made in the states would it be EPA approved ?  Aren't they just concerned about imports ?

Lister Based Generators / Re: Start O Matic (SOM) 240v generators
« on: February 13, 2007, 11:39:04 PM »
I realize that if you put a new ST generator head on it you can get 120v.
Can the SOM generator heads be coverted easily to 120v or are you just better off putting a new generator head on?
Similar to a 120v/220v electric motor just switching a wire.

I've seen some of these SOM on E-bay.  Can the 240v generators on the SOM's make 120v?

I use bronze taco pumps in my outdoor wood boiler.  They work great.  I push water 195' to the house and 75' to my shop in a 1" pex line.  My big pump is 1/8 hp, 1.76amp,60hz, 115volts.

I'm not sure if this is going to hyper link or not, but here is there web site.

Thanks,
I didn't relize they were 24 volt.  I think I might stick to civilian issue unless someone has a good idea or experience on how to real in 24 volt on a 12 volt system.  I'm not a electrical engineer by any stretch.  I don't don't even know what a charging algorithm is.  I'm a wood truss designer by trade.  I do know what algebra is, however. ::)

Thanks,Bob
I wonder about a military surplus alternator?  Ther'e mad tough I think.  I know you can sometimes buy a box of them on auctions cheap, but the ones in the box are probably a hunk of crap thats why they are in the box.

When I get my 6/1 set up I was planning on running a ST on one flywheel and a auto alternator on the other flywheel for charging batteries.
Are some of you doing this?

I checked into net metering here in michigan with consumers power.  I need a special two way electronic meter that measures power both ways and a meter on the generator.  I have to buy the two meters for around $1500.00 :o  I can buy alot of batteries and invertors for that or another Lister.  Let us know how you come out with the induction moter idea.

I'm 5 miles from Lake Michigan in West Michigan (Nunica).  We have great salmon fishing.  Not off the gride yet.  Within the next year.  I think I'm going to net meter. Saving my pennies for a few Lister original's from Mr. Lister to ship across the bigger pond.   ;D
