Thank you for the reply. I thought this was the answer, but how to compress the head gasket and get sufficient load on the head bolts? I am considering getting some stainless nuts so that some sufficient torque can be applied.

Thanks again

Anyone know where I may obtain the exhaust for a Petters Appletop engine as shown in the attached photograph. It is quite a large casting and has been badly damaged on my engine.

Thank yo

Does anyone have torque figures for the 4 brass head nuts on the Petters Appletop engine. these sit in the cooling water and hold the tank to the body.

Also, does anyone know where one may aquire a cast iron exhaust part as shown on the attached photo. the large black portion!

Thank you

Petteroids / avaiability of Petter m head studs
« on: May 22, 2020, 09:47:01 AM »
Anyone know of a possible source of head studs for an M type appletop engine, also big end bolts?
A further question:- the head bolts protrude into the cooling water in the appletop and have brass nuts, but obviously in the case of the engine we are rebuilding the water has damaged the studs, as the top of the brass nuts is open! Is there normally some sealing plug or similar, fitting into the top of the nut to prevent such corrosion?

Thank you in anticipation

Has anyone got experience of using an airmotor to start various old single cylinder engines? I have seen a device being used to start F1 cars by shoving it into the engine rear, then applying air the detaching the device. Some thing like this would be great for firing up these engines as one get older, and finds turning them over getting more and more difficult.  It would need to be detachable so that it covered various engines.
What would be a likely HP and torque requirement say to start a Lister CS. As the compression can be removed there should not be too much load initially!
Any comments? cheers

Any help appreciated.

Petteroids / PETTERS UNIVERSAL "M" TYPE OIL ENGINE

Just in receipt of the above engine which states on the name plate NEW MODELNo 11636 , 1 1/2 BHP @ 750 RPM . Does anyone have any information on this type of engine ? Also any information on its operation ? It has quite a different carby and fuel set up in general and not sure how to go about rebuilding it. Ideally a  manual would assist ! Where would one obtain same?
This model was apparently known as an Appletop, because of the cooling water tank on top of the cylinder which was spherical.

Can anyone give some information regarding build date and availability of parts, rings etc.

Thank you
