Petteroids / Re: Is a Petter AA1 smaller in size than the AC1?
« on: June 11, 2017, 07:40:55 PM »
I rope started my AC1 a few times even though I had both crank handle off the cam gear side and electric start.  Wasn't to bad.  I had training on diesel engine repair in tech school.  I prefer working on them over petrol(gas) engines.   I wont need the rare raised crank start, it wouldn't fit since the tractor has a bonnet(hood) that goes over the top of the engine.  Its easily opened to access the decomp lever to fire up the engine.   I like not having all the electric stuff as that is less to go wrong and need repair.   I can get a NOS Genuine Petter rope for starting off ebay.  I PM'd you my email addy.   Thanks  Mike

Thanks for the info dieselgman!   I wish the AC1 would fit, But is much taller than the space under the hood.  The AA and AB are shorter in height and would be an easier fit.   You don't happen to have the parts to convert a fixed RPM AC1 to variable speed do you?   Finding those parts would be a big help in what engine I end up purchasing.  I do have an AC1 found in the USA, just a bit more than I can spend at the moment, but that could change.    Mike

The AA or AB should have plenty of power, I can cut grass with the tired 8 hp petrol engine at idle rpm where it has little to no torque.  The AB in stock form should be fine in my little tractor.   Is there a cost effective way to ship them from the UK to the USA?   Last AA1 someone priced shipping was around 200 pounds sterling, which effectivly doubled the price of the engine to me.  As long as the AB1 has a keyed output on the crankshaft  on the geared side, I can work with no electric start.   Mike

Changfa Engines / Re: LA170F clone(yanmar clone)

You can get that from Carroll Stream Motors brand new still.  The 6 and 10 horsepower diesels are still available.  The 6 is out of stock there but new shipment is due soon.   I might be able to squeeze the 6hp in my Wheelhorse, researching it now.    Mike

Changfa Engines / LA170F clone(yanmar clone)

This is the one small air cooled diesel that will fit under the hood of my Wheelhorse.  Having trouble locating one in the USA since imports of new are ^*^*&$ banned!!   The 6hp version that I can get new, is just a bit to all.  My max height is 17 inches.  From what I can tell, even with the fuel tank and bracket removed and silancer removed, its still to tall, only the smaller 4 hp will fit(I have fitted one previously years ago).   Any sources that might have one of these smaller air cooled clones on the shelf?    Mike

What I need is one of the LA170F clones with a keyed crankshaft and electric start.  Dont need several, just need one good one.   Seem hard to come by in the USA.  I have cash in paypal waiting if someone can hook me up with one.   Hopefully soon before the engine in my Wheelhorse gets any worse.   Mike

Going to concentrate on finding a Petter AA1 diesel for my Wheelhorse.  Any help, from USA or UK welcomed.  If you willing to help ship to the USA, I would like to chat with you

I am interested in the overall height of the engine.  I have a height restriction to keep it under the hood.  I cannot find those specs.   Mike

Engines / Re: Petter AC1 Value
« on: June 07, 2017, 01:39:33 AM »
I would consider it a parts engine value wise.  I see them in the USA in running order for $250-650 without the 110vt alternator.  Most have 12vt alternators as they were used on  roadside arrow boards till the solar powered versions took over.   Looking for an AA1 or AC1 myself.   Mike

I have been unable to find dimensions online as of yet.   Wanting to know if the Petter AA1 is smaller in size than the AC1.   I used to have the AC1 and am familiar with its size and I have the  spec sheet for that model.   Thanks  Mike

Opps, forgot that, Indiana USA.   Engine needs to be variable speed as well and not fixed rpm.  I saw the one on ebay thats on a cart that used to run a pump, looks like its a fixed rpm.

I would love to find one of the 4.5hp yanmar LA series clones that were imported for awhile.  Only can get the 6 and 10 hp versions now, which are to tall for where I want to use it.   It has gotten quite difficult to find the Chinese clones, be it hopper cooled or air cooled.    Mike

Hello everybody.  I am looking for a Petter AA1 diesel for a Wheelhorse repower project.  Needs to have the full speed pto keyed output shaft.    Can be running or non running condition as long as its complete.   I know most do not have electric start, but have seen a couple that did have it.  Either is ok.     Thanks  Mike
