General Discussion / Re: LAPTOP DEPOT / AVOID THESE SLIMEBALLS
« on: September 23, 2010, 03:08:37 AM »
I also found out that Customers have been laying tons of complaints with the BBB about Laptop Depot.

I believe the Warranty is 'In House'   I post my dissatisfaction with TDI Club, Ourlocal 353 and any other site I am a member of.

General Discussion / LAPTOP DEPOT / AVOID THESE SLIMEBALLS
« on: September 18, 2010, 07:11:11 AM »

This outfit is shady! About a year and a half ago I purchased a refurbished Apple G5 from them with a 3 year parts and labour warranty.

One day, these large black spots appear on the bottom of the screen. I take the unit to Laptop Depot for repair and they claim it was 'Physical Damage'.  I paid $200 for this warranty and they will not honour it!!  If it is 'physical damage' then it was the previous owner and this should be covered under warranty.

Laptop Depot has stores in Alberta, BC, and Saskatchewan

Changfa Engines / Re: 1115 changfa injector removal
« on: January 23, 2010, 02:43:28 PM »

On the Changfa , I believe it is 2 bolts and a plate. Loosen the bolts, then crank engine over to loosen the injector.

VW is the same, at least the 02 I had was the same.

300D is threaded and can be a BITCH unless you have the right tools.

Usually the sealing washers are replaced upon installation.

The Steel Frame sits on a combination of railroad ties and concrete, dry sand is just sitting over top of the dirt.

That orange wedge is the factory 'Control panel'  It will eventually be GONE.

The thump is mostly intake noise.  Ground does not vibrate at all.

The cooling system is tied in with the return line on the coal stoker furnace. This way the engine is heated all the time for easy starting.

Generators / Re: sell power back to utility
« on: January 09, 2010, 08:27:06 AM »

What I want to do is 'zero out' my meter once a month.    In Alberta , if you have an excess of power and you want to sell it, the utility company is compelled to buy it. I don't want to do this.  A 'zero out' is fine by me.

I have a 12kw st with a Redstone Diesel on WVO that I would like to synchronize to the grid.

Sound Abatement?   The routing of the exhaust starts with a 2" thickwall from the engine thru the wall and into the concrete blocks, then down one side to the bottom block, then back up the other side and then thru the 4' thickwall to the outside. You can hear it thump inside the house. The webbing has been knocked out of the bottom block so that exhaust can pass to the other side.  The exhaust has a nice thump to it, and not noisy at all.

Most of the noise is from the air intake on the outside. It is an Air Cleaner assembly off a 305 GM.  This sits under the 'Doghouse' that you see in the photo. This doghouse eliminates some of the noise.  I want to be able to hear it run when I am inside the house.

PICTURES!  I don't quite understand how to post pictures on this site. BUT, I managed to post some pictures on another site.

You can look at them at www.ourlocal353.ca   In the Right hand column you will see  a heading 'Recent Posts' Click on to 'Environmental Doublespeak'.  I am Reply #1 and #4 for my Photos.  I will try to 'Bump' this topic so it stays near the top!

If someone wants to, they could download these photos and just title it ' DieselDaves Redstone & Generator'

Update on my WVO powerhouse.

Got the 13 inch serpentine pulley from John at Woodnstuff. Got it mounted. This is a slick looking Pulley!

Got rid of the 'Junction Box ' on the 12kw ST Generator, and mounted a 8 x 8 x4 electrical box in it's place. Fitted the rectifier for the field into the box.  Mounted a breaker panel on the wall with a few 15 amp receptacles plus a 50 amp 120/240 range receptacle. The electrical wholesaler had the 'Kill A Watt's on sale for $35 , so I bought one.  This seems like a No Nonsense Gadget!

Clean up the Gen Shack tomorrow and fire the unit up!  As I mentioned earlier , the Gen Shack is heated from the hot Glycol from the coal stoker and the Engine is ready to fire up instantly on WVO ,as the Engine is already preheated at about 120F!

AT  TDIclub forum, there is a thread about WVO filtering. This guy filters it like your supposed to, but adds 5 cups of baking soda to 45 gallons in a conical tank.

He then siphons the finished product off the top, and then drains the fat and gunk from the bottom of the conical tank. He has done this for 122,000miles on a 05 Jetta tdi and the engine is clean as a whistle inside.

I always thought that getting the glycerine and other impurities out meant having to use lye and methanol?!

General Discussion / Re: Global warming ?
« on: December 15, 2009, 07:25:54 AM »

DOPE-enhagen is just a big scam to tax everything we use , and to milk the working class dry!

Look at Al Gore. He is now a BILLIONAIRE over this global warming non-sense. He has a 20 room mansion with a heated pool. His energy consumption alone is equivalent to 20 1200sq ft houses.

OH, then there's his PRIVATE JET to burn holes in the upper atmosphere!

This is going to be 'A Little Off Topic' , but deals with a Business Owner , Weights and Measures Canada , The Media , and a STUPID CUSTOMER.  The Business Owner runs a Gas station. The Media is also STUPID on this one!

STUPID CUSTOMER goes to gas station to fill a 10 Liter (PLASTIC) Gerry Can. This Gerry Can has a line on it that indicates 10 Liters.  She manages to put 11 liters in it to the line(10 Liter mark). She then files a complaint with Weights and Measures, AND also goes to the Media.

The Media(TV Station) shows up at the Gas Station and fills said Gerry Can with Gasoline. YEP, 11 liters to the 10 liter mark.
Then, Weights and Measures shows up and checks all the pumps for accuracy. Everything is within specs!

The Gas Station ends up on the news. The result of this is a 40% drop in sales of fuel at the onset, with sales going back to normal in a Month.  What can we glean from this?

-Extrusion process does not insure accuracy
-Gerry Can has been exposed to hot sun with Gasoline in it and has expanded. It would not take very much expansion to make it hold 10% more!
-Lack of reasoning on customers part
-Lack of Scientific Method by Media. Should have taken said Gerry Can to alternate gas station and fill it to full mark or used 1 liter beakers of water to fill container to full mark.

Personally, I would have SUED the TV Station for Lost Sales.

Just for fun, I filled a 20 Liter Gerry Can(very used) to the full mark and it took 21.9 Liters!

This is a good example of the Stupidity we have to deal with when Importing and selling these engines!

Stan; this sounds good.  There should be exemptions for Stationary Engines of this type.

'Transport Canada?'  I know what 'Transport' means!  Does Transport Canada know what 'Stationary' means? ::)
