You need a surface plate and V blocks to check the camshaft ???

I think I checked my camshaft  and it was useable as it was .Whew  :)

But my cam bushes were terrible, way too much clearance , I machined a new bush for one end from cast iron and reamed it after installing it.

If anybody wants to remove rust from rusty Lister parts, mix up a molasses / water mix and throw your rusty parts in. It really works !

I use a strong mix about 1 part molasses  to 4 parts water but 1 to 10 will work but its slower . Molasses is easy to buy from farm stores, its a stock feed supplement .

Could you replace the bent? crankshaft . A new crankshaft will fix your problem. 6mm runout sounds terminal to me

You would have to find a engineers with a heavy hydraulic press to repair that bent crank.

Is it possible to use a old automobile 12V generator as a starter generator? Modify something ?

I have a WW2 vintage 12V 300 Watt DC battery charging generator ( A chorehorse designed by Johnson of Canada in the 30's) ) , if the wet cell battery is charged enough, you press a button and the generator acts as a starter and turns the generator single cyl. engine over . It is an old idea it seems , nothing is new !

Maybe the cylinder block has been machined too many times eg it is too low

This pic may work . I think I need a 240 to 5 Volt step down transformer for the meter movement and a resistor across the meter terminals . The 400-0-350 ma refers to the meter movement ?

Been reading the manual on this. There are two light dependant transistors and a light inside the meter , the transistors are in series with the 120V AC relay coils in the control unit ( don't understand this because transistors need DC to operate ? Might be a bridge rectifier in there ) ) . The blue and red pointers allow light onto the transistors and switch them on or off as the case may be. The coil contacts will handle 5 Amps so can be used to switch other devices on/off

I am not sure about the 50 cycle side of things . There are two wire terminals on the back of the meter , I think this is where the 50 cycle is sampled . But how much 50 cycle Voltage is needed to deflect the pointer ?  Mike

The sticker on the meter says:

RTG  400 - 0 - 350 MV

Term.  RES, 1500 OHM

I picked this up at a Hamfest for 10 bucks . It might be a handy thing ..or not  ::)  Problem is it runs from 120V AC .

Sounds likes a dream! I hope that someone gets that stuff who can appreciate its intrinsic value despite low auction prices.



I fear that some of the stuff was bought by dealers who will double the price and resell .

My neighbour was at the auction, he bought a MONO screw pump for $50 , with a single cyl. diesel engine . The MONO pump brand is Australian, they are still in business . The impeller is a screw shape , like a archemedies screw ?

Some of the stationary engines were Australian brands . Sundial was one I spotted .
