« on: July 09, 2020, 01:37:50 PM »
Hi Ade
Thanks for your reply yes I should have added that I’m in the UK
Both my alternators work fine it’s just the auto start that doesn’t work it will start up and run on the button if I keep my finger on it..
Very frustrating..

Original Lister Cs Engines / Lister 8/1 SOM control panel

Hi I've wanted a working SOM for years I've now got two which I can't seem to get as Lister intended the start-o-matic side to work when you have a light plugged in and switch the switch on.

I'm no good with all those complicated electrical bits would anyone be prepared to look over this and repair as necessary for me at my cost, paid job.
I cross my fingers..

Thanks
Steve

All the CS's I have came across with a crank case brether like the one in your pictures with no upward bend have dated from the war years 1939 - 1945 as far as I know that was to save metel that was one place they could do that without altering the operation of the engine..

Listeroid Engines / Re: No change over (compression) Valves

What I find helps with cold starting and is also quicker than heating, I put a few squirts of oil from the oil can down into the inlet...
Raises the compression enough for starting 1st time...

Listeroid Engines / Re: RPM under load
« on: September 30, 2012, 08:12:41 PM »
I have read this thread with a lot of interest, as I have had the same problem which really has got on my nerves for ages... So today I have been playing around with springs after all of your ideas... I have now got a perfect Lister generator how it should be... My set up before, standard Lister adjuster and spring 660-670rpm approx 270V 57Hz no load down to 600rpm 225V 50Hz with 3kw heater element. Now after playing with springs found a perfect one, sorry I am no expert on the gauge all i can tell you it has about 110 turns and is 9 inch's long set to the engine running,I had to make a bracket to make the spring go far enough (as Georges idea with the spring the other end) to make 605rpm 50Hz no load with load which I went up to 3.4kw 50Hz 600rpm... No more over speed any load light or big engine consent rpm... I am very happy....

Thanks for posting, I have been thinking for a long time about burning WMO...
Looks like from your experience, if you keep ontop of the ash, there isn't a problem...
Keep us posted...

Original Lister Cs Engines / Air Filter
« on: January 18, 2012, 09:23:07 PM »
It just goes to show you have to check your air filter, My engine is a 6hp Lister running a ST5 alternator.

I have been experimenting with different fuels, so when I needed to start it from cold it needed some help, took of the air filter and heated the inlet as I turned the engine over.
Started got up to speed, I replaced the air filter to find it got sucked on like a vacuum cleaner,
looked at the volt meter, the alternator dropped 2volts, took the air filter off, volts went up 2 volts...

Just goes to show how much power and fuel loss a air filter can course even when looking OK.

Its out...!
The idea of welding a nut on the bung worked helped by a bolt and a ten ton injector puller...
Thanks All for your help...
