Other Fuels / Re: Hydraulic oil as fuel - anyone using it?
« on: July 26, 2012, 12:09:27 AM »
I have run gen sets that were scheduled for overhauls on straight used motor oil.  It works pretty good in hot weather, or you treat it like those vegetable oil burners and heat the fuel lines.  It does make more smoke and can smell bad.  Cutting it with cold weather diesel also helps.

I think having the crankcases digitized for 3d printing or cad files would be a good thing, it allows people to make the spare parts needed to build an engine or improve on the design.  Its not like we have many extra of these sitting around in the US.

3
would it be possible to make a crankcase for a lister by cutting and welding?

4
Does anyone know how much it would cost to have a listeroid crankcase mapped?

I was looking at buying a lister CE with a broken crankshaft.  Its split in two.  If I take on an engine to restore I would like to be able to restore it.  If not I should let someone else enjoy restoring it.

Closest Ive found to a crank is a company in the UK offering to make one for $7000 if I have one to duplicate.

Are we still able to import crankcases as spare parts?

Anyone know of any listers or listeroids sitting around in the upper midwest?  I would like to get one.  even if it is a project that needs restoring.

The other option is importing just the crankcase and aquiring the rest of the parts.

I'm in Minnesota.  The point of coping it is to have the thermal effiency.  many locomotive engines are made by welding parts together.  If we know what the distances are between critical parts we can weld up our own crankcase.  If your looking at listeroids your not concerned about weight.

Does anyone have blueprints of lister crankcases?

I think it would be quite a neat project if some one came up with a blueprint to weld up a lister crankcase.  Then buy the rest as kit.   Are there any automotive engines that would make good modifiers to slow speed?   I would think you could get cams modified for a chevy 350 pretty easy, it would take one hell of a flywheel though.  anyone in Minnesota up to trying to make an efficient slow speed converted car engine?
