Original Lister Cs Engines / Re: Air cooled worth messing with?

It is a good engine, I was lucky I found mine for $50.00. ;D  If I was going to spend $1500. I'd go with the Blackstone. I am already saving money to pay cash for one. I've read quite a lot on this forum, and think it will be as reliable as an Indian CS.

Greetings everyone.... Don, just read about your bountiful harvest of engines. Congrats.!!!! I'll make a copy of this manual and send it along. Just need an address.  Update: 20/2 Engine runs great, 2 weeks ago I scored a 15KW Kohler w/4 cyl engine and an auto transfer switch. Unit has 693 hrs. $<1K. Yesterday, I scored a 24KW ST gen head. I should have  head by wednesday next week. Now I can start building my portable powerplant.

Engines / Re: oil filtration
« on: December 10, 2007, 07:38:03 PM »
If you are like me, in that I try to get the most bang for the shrinking buck,  check out http://www.surpluscenter.com/
They offer a 10 Micron filter, with 18 PSI bypass for $13.95  Replacement elements are $6.95
Specs for my 20/2 ST are 15-20 PSI oil pressure @ 1500 RPM. Single cylinder low speed Listers probably operate at a
lower oil pressure. Just something that might work for you.

[Specs for: 3/8]

7 GPM RETURN LINE FILTER
Brand new, ZINGA full flow filtering up to bypass cracking point, partial filtering beyond.

Specifications

    * 10 micron Return Line Application
    * 7 GPM return line
    * 200 PSI max.
    * 3/8" NPT ports

    * 250° F max.
    * Built-in 18 PSI by-pass

Peter           Thanks for the pointers to the e-bay shop manuals.  While at work I happened to need a muffler for a small engine, while at that vendor I inquired about parts for a Lister. The guy there sent me to another  local vendor. Called vendor, and he had, on hand, a brand new "ST Range Workshop Manual" for ST/W1,2&3 along with a supplementary PARTS LIST.  Just gave them to me.  Don't have to buy manuals now.  :)  Mayby I should buy a Lottery ticket. .......... Now, I think I'll start looking for a generator head.

THANK YOU Peter !!! Now, where can I purchase a service manual for this engine? I'm kinda anal about service information.
Thanks again.

Listeroid Engines / Re: Gibkey keyway offcenter in crankshaft, now what?
« on: December 04, 2007, 05:05:58 AM »
Has anyone ever tried Red Loctite?  Takes up to .030.  Seems like this would work temporarily. To disassemble just heat to appox. 120 deg. F. If this engine is going to be disassembled in the spring why not machine a new keyway on the crank?  Broach a new keyway in the flywheel, cut new Gibkeys and have confidence that the flywheels will not fall off.  Not trying to step on anyones toes, I'm new here and just asking a dumb question.

I kid you not.  Thought I'd seen 02600 till I got my glasses.
Might be a mis stamped tag ??

The original plan plan, 1.0, was a 20/2 Lister with a 15KW ST.  Since this 2600 RPM engine just happened to fall in my direction, I've decided to go with plan 1.1   Thats a 15KW ST and pulley ratios to make it operational.   This engine was set low idle at appox. 550 RPM, I lowered it a bit. I'll set it back up tomorrow.  Hadn't considered the low speed = low cooling air flow.  The data plate says 20 HP @ 2600 RPM.  I should be OK.
Still grinnin  ;D

I was told the engine powered a water pump. Understand, this is in the southwestern US desert. I've been thinking of a Delco brushless generator, like the ones that were used on railroad refrigerated cars. I've found several places that have them attached to 2-71 Detroit Diesel engines. 12.5 and 20 KW.
I like the self exciting scheme.  I've got this engine low idle at 408 RPM. Is this too low?? The high idle is adjusted to 1183 RPM. Tomorrow I'll change the engine oil, filter, and blow/wash the dirt from inside the cooling shroud. Fuel I used is about 5 yrs. old.  Left over from the steam cleaner. Should run better with NEW FRESH fuel.
Still Grinnin...... ;D

 ;D  Yes it runs. I just uploaded pics to coppermine.  http://listerengine.com/coppermine/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=1&pos=0
1st attempt, hope I got it right.  I cleaned the small fuel filter bowl, not the Racor, used a camera tripod, funnel and hose. Added fuel.
Had to tap the solenoid, primed with lever on side of fuel pump and cranked over. Took me about a minuet to figure out that the stop lever
was in the no fuel position. Anyway, cranked and moved compression release and it started. On the picture it looks like smoke, it's just west
Texas dust. Moved other lever and it ran on both cylinders. ;D ;D ;D Now to find a generator.

Greetings everyone.  I've been lurking for a while now. Reading and learning. Well, today I purchased a Lister 20/2 2600 RPM air cooled engine.
It has a lever operated clutch, an electric starter and a hand crank. I would appreciate a pointer to a service manual or service information for this
engine.  The guy I purchased it from was going to take it to the scrap yard for scrap.  OH.....did I mention that I purchased this engine for $50.00
US Dollars.   ;D Thanks in advance for any help.
