Lister Market Place (things for Sale) / Lister Manuals
« on: November 22, 2011, 05:28:20 PM »
I have 2 Lister Manuals I picked up from the George H auction. I have no use for them as I have an 8/1 CS engine. I want to offer them here as this board has been helpful to me in the past.

1) Lister-Blackstone Types CD and CE Instruction and Illustrated Spare Parts Book. This Manual is in good to excellent condition. Not all grease printed up, etc.  $25 to your doorstep

2) Lister Air Cooled Type LD and SL Instruction Book and Parts List. Thuis manual is in fair condition. It is grease printed on cover and somewhat on back cover. It has some water stains on the tops of some pages. Pages are not torn, or mouse eaten, etc. It is very useable, but not a collector piece.  $20 to you

Best to e-mail as I am not here often

I figure US shipping will be 10 bucks, so I am not trying to make money, just get rid of stuff others can use.
I may trade for Original CS book. I have an 8/1.
Thanks

Oh, I have a pic of them, but am not smart enough to post it.

Original Lister Cs Engines / Re: Welding a cracked water jacket.
« on: July 06, 2011, 04:53:25 AM »
There are specialty shops that weld cast iron. I don't know where you are located, but there is a place in Mt. Vernon, IL that does excellent work. Check out guys into old tractors. Most of that stuff is irreplaceable like lister stuff.
The part is heated up in an oven to cherry red. The part is then gas welded with a cast iron rod. The part is placed back in the oven and allowed to cool over night. Machine, and go.
The trick is to preheat the part and allow slow, even cooling. This prevents further cracking. Lasts forever, good as new.
I have had a couple cast iron race heads with the chambers blown out of them repaired. They are just as good as ever.

Now, many guys can do half assed cast welding.. Probably ok.
I also had an Oliver tractor block with a freeze crack repaired by the Mt. Vernon guy. He did not take it apart. Welded with engine assembled (out of tractor). It is a diesel block. Not leaking a drop for 2 years. I had a "local cast iron welder" try to fix it first. He fu**** it up more than it was before.

"....This seems pretty darn simple. Hard to screw up."

Why does this statement make me chuckle????   :D ;D :D ;D ::) ::)
LOL. I have seen guys that could screw up an anvil with a q-tip.
I see the humor.

I have the bus heater. I also came across an industrial radiator. It is for about a 30hp engine. The core is probably 18 x 16 give or take. I may use it.
I see the wisdom of the just in case fan. Where are you guys mounting your fan switch?
I have decided I will try the thermo siphon radiator thing. With a thermostat. This seems pretty darn simple. Hard to screw up.

Do we have any venders on here that also suppport the site? Either with cash, or information?
I need some CS parts. Pretty simple stuff. I'd like to support those that support us.
I am looking for a rocker arm grease cup. Some lines, external oil filter. Big question is.. are CS parts compatible with bio? (fuel system stuff?)
Thanks

Well, there you go. Thanks for posting that. Obviously you had seen it.
I was surprised bio was the best and as good as it is. I make bio, so good for me. I was also surprised to see some BIG NAME companies stuff does not do jack stuff.
I had not heard of the Opti-Lube XPD before. I will be checking.
Thanks again.

General Discussion / Diesel Fuel Additive Study
« on: February 20, 2011, 07:31:10 AM »
I ran across this on a truck site and though it may be of interest.
In the US we have ULSD (ultra low sulfur diesel) thanks to the EPA. With this increased wear on fuel systems has been reported.
This comnpares many of the more common additives as to effectiveness. It is an easy read.
Thought it was cool and would pass it on.
Wags

Hmmm... how can I insert a PDF file? Pretty damn useless without the study.

Listeroid Engines / Re: How can I add a tachometer to my engine?
« on: February 20, 2011, 06:22:58 AM »

You could install a Tiny Tach diesel Tachometer/Hour Meter.

Veggie, do you have one of these in operation? What size are our fuel lines?
I have a tinytach on a honda generator. I added for the hour meter mostly as it is an inverter piece. It works great on the gas piece.
Thanks
