Wow an old post all is quiet.
Guyd whats the system you are using.
I am also in the UK and have a lister genset which is isolated from the grid when i use it. i.e knock 2 main breakers out before i run up the lister.
I am getting fed up with this and just wanted to grid tie the lister to the house. I am not bothered about net metering as I can use what i produce but I will still need G83 grid tie.
is there a system that can collect the 240v from the genset and sync it to the grid or do I rectify it to DC and use that in a standard inverter OR lastly use a good quality 24v charger plugged into the 240 v and connect that to the GTI. Lots of losses though and wasteful.

Any ideas?

"Stephen - Yes the set is still grid tied.

It was not really a problem - but I moved to 3 phase to reduce the DC ripple at the inverter to be on the safe side. I still have the single phase generator just in case the mains power goes off for a prolonged period.

Sorry I have not replied only we have just had a baby and most of my projects have just gone on hold.

I looked at the induction generators and didnot want to go down that route for the reasons that when I am not here to babysit the generator needs to be run by 3 other people. I need a press button here and you have power solution.. I think spinning a second wind generator is going to be the way to go.

I first thought of converting the AC to DC via a bridge rectifier but Ian (on here) has had problems. I think I may now get a windyboy inverter with a turbine and also connect a PMG to one end of the generator to feed the grid at the same time as I am feeding 240V to other parts of the farm which is seperate to the grid.
Funds are very tight though as I am also installing solar this summer.

Sorry for the long delay. I agree you cannot filter enough. I do runny veg in my Landy and thats usually filtered twice at 1 micron.

The starting an stopping on dino is manual but fool proof (ish). I intend to run for a few hours at a time and the tank is not too big so it should all melt and mix up. good though though.

All I need to do now is work out how to connect it to the grid.

We are currently putting together a small CHP installation 1.5kw Electricity which we would like to grid tie.
Basically we have a 1.5kw Lister generator run on waste veg oil and later would add solar or wind. Our preference is to use the generated 240v for an isolated area away from the grid. I would also like to feed excess power from the generator to the house via a grid tie inverter. (not a normal inverter)
I was thinking that rather than spin a PMG alternator we could convert the output from the generator DC using a bridge rectifier. I know there are losses and is not the most efficient way of doing it but all this is there apart from the rectifier and inverter and is free to use. Due to the loads from the house it would be impractical to isolate the house from the grid and just use the generator. My loads are 150w day, 300-800w evening and peak at 7kw (kettle and Oven)

I cannot find a rectifier bigger than 48V input what would be the output of a typical inverter. I also intend to trickle charge a small bank of batteries (which we have) with spare electricity and a 240v charger so we can use the power stored in the batteries through the inverter when everything has been switched off or its gone dark or no wind.

Has anyone done this already as most of the inverter people are ignoring my emails. I think they think I am barmy.

I am ging to build a new splitter later this summer similar to yours only not as grand(lights eh) thats neat.
Does your slider ever get stuck. If you dont mind me copying your design a little could you post a few close up pick of your splitter head and slide part. I have a MF 135 with a double acting ram on the front of my loader. Its ideal for log splitting.

Hi All, Happy new year to you all.
I am wondering if any one has run their Lister LD (AIR Cooled) engine on solid chip fat/lard. I was just wondering what mods you had made.
I currently have the Exhaust running through the tank so the tank is heated. The lines are insulated but the injector and bleed pipe are not yet insulated.
I have just a bit more work to do before the fat goes in, but wondered should i be doing anything else first.

Sorry for not getting back. The LD18 is a lister generator.
The batteries are 2 x 12v making 24v. I dont know much more other than its very similar to an Lister SOM. If I cant get the batteris to charge then I will disconnect it and just use a 24v charger.

Does anyone have any Idea why my lister SOM is discharging the batteries shown on the amp meter as -ve. I just cant get it to charge the 24v bank. If i cant get it to work then i will have to disconnect it an use the 230v to charge the batteries via a standard charger, just seems a waste though.

Try these I have stick welded loads of cast in the past with this type of rod. I have even welded up my Lister CS water jacket from frost bite when I first got it. My gate hinges are heavy cast and have been swinging 10 years since their repair.

This is the UK though but I am sure there are some in the US. If you cant find any and you have a stick welder let me have your address and I will post you a couple if I have any left. To be honest MIG welding will do the job too especially if you pre heat it.

Waste Vegetable Oil / Re: WVO processor update

Ask several people on this and you will get several answers. Here is mine.

I allow the oil to sit for minimum 1 week.
I then pour off the top part of oil into a three sock filter system comprising of pillow case, 20 micron filter then 1 micron filter all inside each other.

I cold pour the top clear part of the wvo into the filter system that’s about 3/4 of my oil supply (other supplies will vary)
let it drip into the bottom.
decant from a tap 2" up from the bottom of the tank.

That’s it. I have run near 20,000 miles on my WVO on an unaltered Freelander common rail injection engine in the UK. Its just been through its MOT with WVO in it and it passed the emissions.

I would like at some time to put my oil through a centrifuge to see if there is any left over slime in the oil.
