YOuTube has ample vids of Coffman cartridge starters. The Boeing company fitted English Canberra super large cartridge starters ( B-57) to the SAC KC-135 jet engines for emergency ( alert) starts.Lots of smoke and gas that spun over our jet engines. overbore

In the fourth series, a "Field Marshal" diesel tractor is being shown. The fuel is preheated with a fiber( paper ? burn) then a 12 ga(guess) blank cartridge turns over the flywheel which starts the engine. Not a bad idea to copy. The KC-135 had that cartridge starter idea for alert purposes to start one engine. overbore

Just as a comment: I operated a motorsailer with a copper ground plate and a ground wire system but both were finally connected together. It was abir different lash up in that we had an isolation transformer to keep shore power from adding faults and problems to pure ship-based power (110V).

Listeroid Engines / STARTER/CHARGER PARTS
« on: August 17, 2016, 07:18:08 PM »
Since the local Hotlanta temperatures have been over 90F for 33 days or so and for us seniors too much of a good thing is toooooo much  :-[,I  have postponed building the covering shed until it is safe to install lag screws and pound nails and focused on the parts to install a good strarting/charging system as follows :
1, STARTER GENERATOR CLUB CAR EZ-GO GOLF CART 250cc-400cc 1012316 101833701 from Rare Electical
Item # 120952288195
2. With pulley removed, actual shaft dia is 0.685” /17.399mm with key extra height.
3. Bored out 5/8ths diameter  shaft hole to 17mm and the
4. Steel pulley fits including the keyway: Oregon Steel. Lock washer can not be used;Purple thread locker.
5.Yamaha Golf Cart Voltage Regulator OE # J10-81910-10
6.12V 150A CONTINUOUS DUTY SOLENOID RELAY FOR GOLF CARTS 300A IN RUSH 1114208
7.OLS 12V DC 25 Amp On/Off Rocker Switch IP65 Waterproof 3P SPST Red LED Indic. My thinking is that the control current for the solenoid is low enough to allow the use of a low amperage control switch
8 3" channel iron to be cut the width of the I beam mounts
9. Since no suspenders will hold anything up, I neglected to mention a V belt to fit ;D
and 9, and alternator tension adjusting bracket. junk yard.
If anyone has additional ideas, please add and comment.
Cordially,, overbore

Anyone see a market for a 60 cycle kit to be sold to us?  It appears that many of us are "the market" for an entrepreneur .

Honda Motor Co. said it’s introducing a motor for hybrid vehicles that won’t need heavy rare-earth minerals, as Japan’s carmakers look to circumvent sourcing the materials from China.

Magnets developed by Daido Steel Co. without heavy rare-earth minerals will be used starting with the Freed minivan scheduled to begin sales this fall, Honda said in a statement Tuesday. Toyota Motor Corp. and Nissan Motor Co. have also taken steps to reduce their reliance on the materials after China restricted exports beginning in 2010 amid diplomatic disputes with Japan.

China accounts for more than 80 percent of global production of the group of 17 rare earths used in everything from smartphones to electric cars to cruise missiles. The scarcity of rare-earth metals and uncertainty of China’s export policy are major concerns, Atsushi Hattori, deputy general manager at Daido’s specialty steel solutions department, told reporters Tuesday in Tokyo.

The decision by China in 2010 to suddenly restrict exports sent users scrambling for supplies of lanthanum, neodymium, cerium and other rare earths. Major suppliers that have developed rare earth-free motors to reduce cost and reliance on China for procurement include Yasukawa Electric Corp., Mitsubishi Electric Corp. and Nidec Corp., according to Hiroshi Ataka, an analyst at IHS Automotive.
Honda First.
Honda and Daido Steel said they’re the first companies to introduce magnets with the high heat resistance required for use in hybrid vehicles that also contain no heavy rare-earth minerals. Honda rose 3.3 percent as of the midday trading break in Tokyo, while Daido Steel climbed 3 percent.

There is some hope on the horizon,

Thanks for the reply; I was on the treadmill w/out checking blood pressure when TILT! BP was running 170's in the AM so thee levels of pills were tried. JUst checked; 130 /82 so all is on the mend, praise God..
AS to starter generators, it appears that a 20 pound unit, GSB 107 10B from Rareelectical in HOtLanta, has a good customer feedback.  Anyone have better ideas?
Since my earlier roller starter unit crappd out, I am going to install this type of unit behind the flywheel with a 8 grove belt  to the crank flywheel since manual cranking is no longer a safe option for me.
From You Tube, one member here has made this installation--- still here Veggie? Any part numbers such as relay and switch numbers?
Thanks and blessings to all
