Engines / Air intake shut off
« on: December 15, 2009, 04:50:36 PM »
I hope to be able to shut off my lister engine remotely.  Is it necessary to have a air intake shut off for this? I have a 24/2 Power Anand.
Their manual says it could happen but I wonder if anyone has experienced a run away due to not having one.

The way Lister does it is to close the racks on the fuel pumps. This avoids problems like sucking air in through the fuel filter housing and banjo bolts.

I am aware of this but I am trying to shut it off electronically. I do not wish to spend a lot of money and time on fabrication on buying an actuator to pull the shut off lever. I am having trouble finding out why only one cylinder at a time works.

Do you use 100% coolant or 50% coolant.

Also, if it is at zero PSI, how do you keep the coolant from evaporating and thus needing to constantly add coolant?

I am just getting my engine going so I do not have any knowledge of how it ran before this.

I was trying to see if two fuel shut off solenoids, one per cylinder, would shut the engine off in sufficient time. To do this I replaced the existing fuel line with flexible hose and used a couple of valves to simulate a fuel solenoid. When I started the engine up, I noticed only one cylinder was firing while the other was only putting out a mist out of its muffler but no heat. However when the cylinder that was working was shut off, the other started to run.

I checked the fuel lines for air and they seem to be OK. I cracked the pressure side of the injector and it had fuel coming out. The timing was adjusted by someone who knows what they are doing about a year ago and the engine has sat since then.

Is there any suggestions about the possible problem?

Engines / Coolant Pressure

I am using a standard automobile radiator on a 24/2 engine made by power anand. I am wondering what pressure it is best to run the coolant at.

I think this will not work on a 24/2 because the place where the solenoid would connect to is the place where a rod goes that connects the governors from both sides. It may be necessary to have the solenoid on the shut off handle instead.

is there anyone who has tried using two solenoid valves on the suction side of the injector before on a 24/2?

Thanks Listeroil,

The arm that the solenoid is attached to is also the arm that moves to allow more fuel to the engine when the mechanical governor calls for it , correct? If so, how does it move with the arm and also shut the engine off?

I am wondering if a standard fuel shut off will shut down a 24/2 engine without a serious delay time from when the solinoid shuts off and the engine does. I wonder because it is said that these engines have a very high idle efficiency and that means it may take a while to drain the remainder fuel in the line. Is it necessary to have an actuator on the lever for the governor to shut off the injectors instead?

What high temperature should the snap switch open/close at?

I am being told that a standard coolant temperature switch or sender is not adequate for a slow speed engine. Was told I should use a engine block temp. switch instead. Is this correct?

Could you explain how you plan to use the temp switch to activate the decompresion?

Have you looked at Datakom controllers? They are quite cheap and can be monitored from online Look at DKG-317. One glitch: the starter is programed to disconnect at 15 herts and this is not changeable. Maybe you should contact the manufacturer and request they change this.
