Good day folks.

I just got the deal of a lifetime, in my mind anyway.

I don't know a ton about Listers but One look at this old girl and hearing previous offered prices. I was happy to double all others and offer $600 for it.... Id guess running it's worth at least 10x that.

It was the backup generator for a good sized farm up until 15 years ago when they upgraded. But was running great then and the engine rolls over. I didn't want to attempt starting until I'd had a chance to go over it and make sure everything is good.

I'm struggling with identification of model and year. None of the engine number decoders I can find seen to make sense of it properly. The plate looks to read: Engine #  2590HR219
25HP 1800 rpm

The plate on the generator says Generator No. 2/54617 and has some bearing sizes and information but no kw rating or anything else.

I'd love to know any specifics, ratings and any other information possible.  Photo links below.

Lister ST2 (might be SR2) with a Brush SCAFF generator head, probably rated at around 7KVA. You will probably need to replace the old selenium rectifiers with modern silicon rectifiers. 1800 RPM indicates 60Hz so most likely a 110 volt output. Would have been built in the 1970s.

Looks to be an HR2. My guess would be in the 12-15kw range.

If it runs and generates I would say $600 is a great deal.

Looks to be 1969 manufacture date. Last two digits plus 50 is how lister did it until the early '1980's

I'd thought it was an HR2 just by the engine number but it didn't seem to make sense with any of what id read on breaking down the model numbers.  We're the HR2 all basically the same? Or did they vary from year to year?

Trying to gather some parts to keep on hand.

Anything in particular A guy should look at with an engine this age that's sat for 10-15 years? Aside from usual engine items?

I plan on having it in service for a long time so I don't mind spending a few bucks on preventative maintenance.

Are there any common issues with this model?
Good parts to keep on hand?

There shouldn't be any variance from year to year, The only thing that would be different is that Lister tended to use different springs and weights on the cam/governor depending on RPM, otherwise everything else should be consistent.

Having sat I would likely make sure the fuel pump and injector have not clogged or stuck. Otherwise just oil, filter changes, and maybe clean out the crankcase if it needs it. Also, see if it needs to be decoked which would require a couple of gaskets.

I don't know of any common issues with the HR series.

As far as parts to keep on hand, I would keep a couple of gasket sets, fuel pump and injector rebuild parts, and filters. One could go down the rabbit hole with bearings and bushings but would have to disassemble some of the engine to check if everyhting is still standard or weather the engine has had any reman work.

Where are you located? In Australia/NZ Oldtimerengines has a good selection of parts. In the UK stationaryengineparts has the same. There are a couple of places in the US as well.

Let us know how it goes, always fun to see another one brought back to life.

Well I'd say I'm very pleased thus far.
A bit of oil down the valves to ensure she wasn't turned over dry and a few dozen rotation by hand to spread it around.

She fired right up and ran perfectly at 1800 as she should.
The only issue I can find is that I cannot for the life of me identify the generator end. And as such can't detemine if it can be configured for 120/240 split phase as currently I'm only getting 120 from L1-N and 120 from L2-N but nothing from L1-L2

Hoping someone can tell me generator type and if it's possible or not.

I have a pretty good understanding of generators and electrical in general.  Is it possible that this generator end is only good for 115volts or more likely that the windings are just tied together in such a way that this is all it's putting out?

Is there a chance I can get split phase 230/240 out of  it from what you can see?

Unfortunately the only info plate on it only says the following generator number # 2/54617 aside from that there is only replacement brush and bearing info. No voltage / phase specs or anything. no brand name .

It is hard to see, but looks like the engine tag says SR2. ?? Just wondering..
