I don't want to over-tighten, water pump end!

OK the engine turns over clockwise in the pic, so I'm assuming the bolt thread is normal...

The crankshaft pulley retaining bolt is left hand thread..

Makes all the difference to know, thanks

All is good, with 6ft scaffolding pole I was able to undo the left-handed retaining bolt on the bottom pulley. Have had the pumps out, freed the two that were jammed and all back with a governor rail that now freely moves back and forth. As I say a good day!

Glad you've freed up the pumps and got things moving. Just thought I would post this small section from the manual as it is important for the correct and smooth running of the engine. The diagram shows a special Lister tool, but it is not needed as I'm sure something could be made to do the job. The important thing is that the rack is held at 55.5 mm when the pumps are fitted.

Thanks for the reminder about the rack position. I had removed the spring and had the rack at maximum position, need check that this is at 55.5mm.
