+1 to that, once the storm has passed you will be able to see which houses have back up generators they will be the ones with the lights on. I hope they will help their less well prepared friends and neighbors until the cavalry arrive.

As a resident of a potential Hurricane strike location, South Kona, Hawaii, I kind of feel your pain. May I suggest that you remember your pets and dependent animals now rather than when you're loading the car to get the Hell out of there. Gutters clean?
How much concrete can you buy for $100,000? The only way to rebuild. Too soon?

We watched the Seahawks game Thursday night thanks to a Craftsman 7-8 KW gasoline powered generator. It kept the neighborhood safe last winter running almost 6 days straight while the power lines were down. It was rather loud but keep the fridge running and the TV fulfilling it's important role in our modern society. Turns out the generator is almost 10 years old and has been the heart of many camping and hunting trips. I'm not nearly as prejudice as I was a week ago.

I'm a fan of them Casey. Because they cost almost nothing you can have several. Last time we had a major outage my various ones kept three rural households going - just the essentials: fridge, water pump, lights

Hi guys, it doesn`t matter what generator you have as long as you have one when nature or corporate stupidity leaves you in the dark. The ability to access the internet, telephone, news platforms and radio broadcasts is vital in an emergency. Good on you Mike for helping out your neighbors.
A lot of my neighbors are now completely off grid due to the costs and reliability issues associated with the grid system where we live, I am looking forward to joining their off grid group in the next 12 months. There are very few certainties in life in Australia other than death, taxes and the grid not being able to cope with the air conditioning demand in summer.

Is it the Listeroid ?

Hurricane Dorian is now hitting my country.
The now Catagory 2 storm hits eastern Canadian seaboard later today.
I sold a few Listeroids into that area several years back. Maybe they will be needed tonight.

Glort just picks up the cable, touches the end, and the entire city lights up.

Since Glort apparently has the power to light up an entire city on his own, perhaps we should rename him Magneto or Dynamo, this should be followed by de-commissioning all fossil fuel generation plant and replacing it with Glort. Life expectancy of the Glort generating system is probably around 30 years depending on the load we put on him.
My recommendation is that if you are lucky enough to meet him face to face don`t shake his hand, could be fatal, depending on the load he is under. :laugh:
