Hi all,
I have now obtained a copy of the RS1 Magneto Workshop Instructions. If any one needs a copy please let me know and I can email you a PDF.
Cheers, James.

Well done.
I would like a copy please so I will send you my email via private message.
Thanks in advance,
John

Hi John,
No worries will send now.
-
It arrived safely today and a big thanks for sending this information. I have flywheel magnetos sorted and I am slowly getting better at rotary ones and once fully understood I will rebuild a couple I have from tractors. Next on the list of WANTS is a magnet re-charger, I have the plans to build one, just need a huge amount of copper wire.
Thanks once again.

No worries, your more then welcome!
I had thoughts on a magneto/magnet charger also. Makes sence to to learn/make as much as possible to extend life of ones engines - plus it sounds like fun!

The tester I have for flywheel magnetos was used in a mower shop years ago and it came with no operating instructions and the company that made it in the late 50-60's is no longer, but by asking in a lot of places and with some common sense I worked it out. It has the ability to test point condition, condensor strength and coil condition both cold and then can heat it up and test again to see if it has lost any condition. My multi-meter took me ages to get one that done everything needed and now some of the steps I have down pat but I have a mate who helps sort my head out around issues I have, so slowly getting there.

Hopefully this works

Hi James, I've messaged you as well - wasn't sure if it is the same file as at the bottom of this post or not. The images of the front cover of the instruction booklets that I've seen are different to the one that I downloaded from the bottom of this post.
Many thanks
Chris

I've already listed some manuals for magnetising, Rs and SR Lucas magnetos further up the page ready for you to download.

I know it has been 3 years since you posted this but I have just joined. Would I be able to get a copy of the RS1 manual please
-
I now have in my collection a re-magnetiser. It originally was made for and supplied to an airport maintenance hanger and is very heavy and also had an accessory for charging solenoids. It is a box with a hole through the middle, strange.
Since buying it I have charged a few magnetos for myself and one I thought was really only ever going to be a parts magneto now throws a good spark.

Hi Cobbadog. The RS1 manual you downloaded only includes specifications and parts list for RS1. What I'm looking for is a workshop manual which includes the same information and maintenance instructions as in the SR1 manual you downloaded. I assume this is what JD84 said he had available? If you or any other member has this I would appreciate it. Thanks Paul

Hi Paul, the ones I posted are all I have, sorry. But they are similar in many ways just not in their looks. What specs are you looking for? Coil readings, condensor and points gap are all the same just look different.
I have not used a condensor for many years now and only use film capacitors as they are far more reliable and cheaper to buy. If you have good magnetism, clean and correctly gapped points then the next things are condensor or coil and timing of the rotor. Because Lucas can be run backwards with a slight alteration to the cam timing to the 'magnetism flux' this can slip and get out of whack.

Hi again Paul, As a late thought send a private message to JD84 as we don't always log into the website only when a message comes in so that might help get the manual you require a bit quicker.
If all else fails you may have to look online to find a copy of what JD84 described. In Australia there is an online shop named Plough Book Sales who sell all sorts of manuals, might be worth a look.
