Title: Do it Changfa Style
Post by: veggie on May 07, 2019, 10:59:00 PM
The workhorse engine of Asia.
And grossly overloaded most of the time.

Not bad for a single cylinder engine !

These people are just painful to watch.
I'll bet a new set of rings and a valve lap would save them a lot of accumulated time and farting about trying to start that thing.
I'll also bet they just let it run till there is no more fuel and therefore have to bleed it every time which shouldn't be that hard on these things.

... also note the engine does not have an air filter. In that dusty environment it's like having sandpaper in the cylinder bore.

Here's a passenger view of a work vehicle ...

They really are amazing engines.
A few years ago I built a really nice Changfa 195 Generator which my neighbour bought from me.
Since then he has added only 2 hours of run time. He offered to sell it back to me for 25% less than he paid.
The problem is that I already have 4 in the garage. Hmmmm.... how could I hide this one if I bought it ?
Maybe if I painted it the same colour as my others she won't notice it ?  ::)

2 hrs and his wife told him to shut it down or move out?
Great little engines for the nearly deaf.

Slow speed engines rule for often used home generator power!

My custom keyboard (analog passive matrix so no emissions) started having shift key problems after about 25 years of use.  It's based on a Keytronic silicone membrane keyboard, with printed conductive ink, with some mods to the ink and processor removed. Finally had to clean the contacts on my little connector board and the ink. It's working great again, and all the bits got a bath with the parts brush so it looks like new. Amazing how the molded silicone sheet works so well for a nice feel.

Success always makes me cocky.  :D

All those funny trucks we see in the Indian vids - the ones that don't seem to have a cab - I wonder were they originally comventional trucks with "normal" petrol or diesel engines, cabs, windscreens etc; and did all those things succumb to neglect, rust etc so that by the time they need a Changfa repower they are down to a husk - like an old Nissan Patrol in the outback, where the body has long disappeared but the chassis, running gear and a seat or two remain?  Or did they start off life as a shell?  They seem to have a conventional looking bell-housing with maybe some support bearing on the input shaft and a few belts-and-pulleys . . .
