Title: LPW3 Genset

Help!!
So I bought this unit ant it ran fine.
put on trailer and moved it up a mountain and it wont start.
Fuel filter changed and bled for air.
Oil and fuel present
spins over like it should but it will not fire.
fuel shutoff solenoid works as it should

A little more information required... history of machine, how many hours on it. How was it starting and running at last location?

Fuel delivery is the first thing to confirm, then compression and air. You should be seeing smoke or vapors in the exhaust ports.

These direct injected units can be fussy about compression and they carbon up inside fairly easily if run without loading. This can be disturbed in transit and cause exhaust valves to not seat fully.

Hey Glort,

Had that a few times before, mostly on hydro-locked outboard motors.... The land based ones almost always came down to being caused by removal/refitting of the flywheel on the crank with a bit of grit thrown in for extra fun on the taper by the local "engine doctors" 99% of the time, remove, clean up scarring, if any with fine emery cloth and refit after washing ALL crap off with "petroleum acid" (RUG) or benzine, torque to spec and Bob's your auntie!!

All good after that.... Never had to lap a taper in as yet (Excepting of course, newly made and not so well fitting replacement parts, but CI, not Al ones....)

So I loaded up the genset and took it home..
Didn't start still
Gave it a shot one day of WD40 and it fired right up
Problem solved..... WRONG
It just happened to be warm for a few days
So I took the heat gun to unit and it fired up yesterday
So how do I test Glow plug circuit? I think there is a jumper wire on relay that wasn't there originally
does this unit only have one glow plug in intake?

not really sure of age or hours on this unit
It is a HawkPower 3 cylinder Genset maybe 10kw?

Different units have differing pre-heat arrangements. Most of the civilian LPW3 direct injection engines have single pre-heat elements in the intake manifold. Cold temps, low compression, retarded injection timing, all can cause them to be difficult to start. The WD40 spray and the heat gun are both acceptable starting aids. Put a meter on your heater plug and see if it is energized when you call for pre-heat. Those plugs do burn out easily enough. Relays also can easily fail.
