Title: What size?
Post by: trickn7474 on July 18, 2006, 06:54:04 AM
I'm a newbie and have become a diesel nut reading the forums. I have found several petteroids that I want to match up with a genset. What horsepower do I need for a 3kw genset, 6kw genset?

Hi Trickin

I'd suggest at least  6.5 hp petter for the 3 kW and a 10 HP for the 6 kW... I'd go with a belt drive and run the engine at about 1200 RPM...

Can a Petter engine run at 1200 rpm without fouling?  The 6.5HP AC1 engine was alluded to here and I'd sorta wonder if 1200 rpm is going to do good things for the engine.

Waggonmans probably talking about a Petteroid.  They run at 1000-1500 rpm.  The AC1  is a modern engine and runs at 3000-3600 rpm.

Service info I have specifies the injection timing values for speeds down to 2200 rpm.  Lister Petter published the bhp as 6.5 @3600 decreasing down to 2.8 bhp at 1500.  It has a torque peak around 2800.
