Hi, it's been a couple of years but I finally started work on my engine.
It had a pronounced knock when ran so I checked the timing & it seemed to be a little advanced,( I have a Lister manual).
My first time so I removed the pump (carefully) then I saw the access port.....nuts.
Anyhow I retarded the timing a bit 1/2 turn and bolted it back on, it fired up and ran half heartedly for 30 seconds then quit.
So now I went to set the spill timing properly and I can't get the pump to jive with the flywheel....it's at TDC and the fuel spills like it's supposed to but when I advance the flywheel a few degrees the fuel doesn't stop....it behaved when I checked it initially.So I figure I pulled a bonehead move some where, I just hope I haven't screwed it up too badly....

It was way too hot yesterday so it was good I quit & slept on it.Some reading led me to the side of the pump body that has a "sight" hole where the plunger can be seen and there is a line on it that shows the upper/lower limits of it's travel..... from what I read it's good that I didn't advance the timing too much as that can damage the pump, the travel seems to be in the ballpark now.

After another failed attempt to get the pump to behave...(the fuel just ran out regardless of the flywheel position) I figure that spill timing would have to wait another day so I just bolted the fittings back to the pump..... bled the air and in 2 attempts she went.
No knocking this time...in fact I think the timing was backed off so much that even with the fuel lever down and the decompress active she didn't want to quit!In fact right at the end she shuddered and ran in reverse for a bit.
At least I have a starting point now.
