I ran two of these engines for a few years in a tug linked together through a single gearbox onto a single prop. Model ERS8M 600 hp @ 750 rpm. We had to install a new crankshaft in one when we bought it as we couldn't get any oil pressure. After that we changed the oil pump for a longer body pump which pushed more oil and then it ran for years. Those big black doors hide all the fuel pumps which sit in brass trays which supposedly catch any leaking fuel and drains it to a small container by the flywheel thus avoiding oil dilution, which as lots of you know can be a problem with Lister's ! Very fuel efficient but we spent a lot of time pulling heads and valve grinding but it was working hard. Cracked a few heads too, overheating. Used to get parts from R.E. Trem in the U.K. Eventually the water jacket in the turbo casing went allowing water in to the air passages. Bore 222 mm x stroke 292 mm. Used to throw oil around rather a lot too in good British tradition.

She's a real beast! Now if only I had a tugboat needing repowering!

Psst, anyone want a Mirlees Blackstone ES4 ? 330 HP @ 750 RPM, Napier turbocharger, 6 1/2 tons, 24V starting with twin starter motors, 327 hours running time.
Would make an ideal tractor pulling engine ;D.
Mark.
