Here is a snapshot of the 18/1 that Bill W. is currently building. He has done a thorough blueprint on the internals and added a mini-turbocharger (with charging chamber), and external rotary oil pump among other mods. So far it all seems to be working as intended but no technical data available as of yet.

Bill is also building his own PMG generator heads to provide a load for his new baby... here is one prototype that is now operational:

Pretty impressive fabrication work - especially when viewed up close! WOW!
I will try and keep you posted on progress with this project.

Oooh Turbo...
I like that valve cover. I have toyed with a plan with a "cape" that goes all the way down over the pushrods to put everything under cover:)

Yes, Bill certainly does some excellent work! He told me he was self-taught in the fabrication stuff - you should see the quality of his welds! I would swear that some of his stuff came right out of a high-tech factory but it is all done right in his basement.
I believe he told me his PMG will be belt driven... but I am not certain of all his plans for it. I think he built several and was working on some wind-power stuff as well.

Any updates on this? Is it just getting dusty somewhere?

Bill has done some additional work and testing on his unit... he reports it is running well. The turbo is providing 2 to 3 psi boost under moderate loads, could not get enough load to really test for maximum output. He is somewhat out of the usual communications loop, I don't know when we will get additional photos and data. I will report here when I get additional info.

I now have some updates on this project and a lot of pictures... The whole machine is mostly together and operational with many custom features that Bill has worked out to excellent functionality. We need to do some loading and fuel consumption documentation but, as it sits, we have not been able to overload or otherwise push this thing to its limits. It will run 9kW plus an air compressor without ever varying under load changes... perfectly clear exhaust and very steady speed - 750 rpm. Starts up immediately with the golf-cart motor/generator and heats right up nicely under load in less than 5 minutes with the added thermostat and heating element in the radiator.
With the gallery off-line for now, I cannot post the images as I usually do. I will try to put up the video on youtube and get a link posted.

The mini turbo was not that bad for cost... but all the custom plumbing - hugely time consuming. As with all prototypes, the first builds are very expensive and can take quite involved efforts. This one does not "spool up" as you might expect in an automotive application with a revved engine - rather, at 750 engine rpm it just pushes a steady pressure (maybe about 3 psi measured at the inlet port) with slight pulses at each valve opening. You probably noticed the air-box gauge jumping from zero to 2 or 3 psi. Instrumentation could use a little work and I am thinking we could tweak the fuel and timing a bit once we get down to the finer aspects of tuning. Bill had to go back to the stock plunger oil pump because the rotary pump just moved way too much oil for the little turbo.

Does the turbo need bearing cooling ?

The turbo is lubed and cooled with oil pressure (straight off the stock plunger-type oil pump). Bill included a metal tank in the air inlet flow that probably adds a slight cooling effect on the stream.
