Hi Guys
I am new here and have a Lister (India) 12/1 that will not start.
When I picked it up it run fine. now one month later I cannot get to
fire.
I lossened the fuel line at the injecter and CONNOT get fuel to come out.
I have fuel at the pump but not past that.
This thing run so well I can't believe it's anything serious.
Need info and input
Now running in Atlanta

The fuel air-bleed procedure starts at the tank or supply point, then work your way through each connection all the way to the injector. Check to be sure your fuel rack is open and moving freely.

As Gary said you need to go back further towards the tank and start bleeding. In situations like yours I usually start at the delivery valve. Loosen and remove the high pressure line from the pump then remove the fitting under the line. Be careful when pulling the fitting from the pump as there is a spring under it that can easily be lost. Lift the delivery valve from its seat with clean fingers and wait for fuel with no bubbles to appear then reassemble being careful the spring is where it should be. Then bleed the injector and you should be OK to go.

I agree with 38ac

I pulled the fitting and the spring out and
did not see anything wrong. I spun the engine over and got fuel.
then reassembled the spring and fitting.
Now no fuel is comming out of the fitting.
I took it apart and started again
Again no fuel
What's going on?????

The delivery valve will not pass fuel except when engine is rotating and the fuel pump is at the proper position in its stroke with fuel rack open.

It does pump fuel when I spin the engine, but when I put the spring back in
No Fuel

With delivery valve fully installed, it should only pass fuel in very small pulses when engine rotating. Again, check the fuel rack position if it does not pulse fuel out the top of the pump during cranking.

It does pulse fuel with the spring OUT but with the spring in it will not pass the fuel (eletric start)

Your pump element has two motions if working properly... vertical travel in response to fuel cam lobe, and rotation in response to governor rack movements. The plunger can become stuck and stop working without it being that apparent from an external inspection. Check carefully to insure that the element plunger has free rotation and full vertical travel. You can always pull the pump and manually check that the pump has free motion. Other than this, there is no mystery to that fuel pump. If it has an air-free supply of fuel, then it must pass the fuel out the top when it is operated. If you really cannot seem to resolve the difficulty, it is possible to swap the pump out altogether... these are readily available and not terribly expensive. Any buddies nearby? Sometimes another set of eyes/hands can spot the problem even though you have been methodical in your own approach to it.

Big Thanks to Dieselgman
After much looking it seems the fuel rack was not
opening enough on start-up.
A little manual push brought the smoking beast to life
Thanks again

Good job Randy! ;)
These problems are usually quite small, but can require tenacity and patience to locate!
