Picked up a Chinese generator today and thought it was a 5KW ST but tag said brushless. Removed the band and sure enough is brushless. What supprized me even more was I pulled the top off the dog house and other than a capacitor looking devise there is nothing in there that isn't in an ST. I though brushess heads all had some type of electronic regulator? A pic of the tag for those who know more than me (which is everyone) An overall picture of the unit is on the changfa forum here.

Brushless heads are self-exciting, they rely on precision in their windings and wire sizes to achieve correct outputs. The Marathons we are familiar with do not generally use any AVR device at all.

Gary,
I opened the dog house figuring to see an AVR of some kind but none in there, just the normal things you see in a ST plus the capacitor (at least I think it is one?) . There is a large reostat to fine adjust the voltage which works well. I can get a picture inside of it but it will be a day or so.
