I can't even laugh anymore at stupidity like that.
I think people in general are so far removed from understanding things now this seems OK to a growing numbver of people.
I started a little for fellow that involved wiring a compressor for some stuff I wanted ( engines and generator parts ). One thing led to I was rewiring a shop that looked like early Canadain fire hazzard, trying to repair an electric forklift I needed to use ect.
I sunk to that level of stupidity myself standing on a wooden skid pulling cable.
Cutting corners in order to get things to work rather than work right.
And I was to be asked to comeback and do more casue thats just the kind of creativity we need to get back on our feet and push this back log out.....
The hack in all of us is alive and well just waiting for the right conditions of haste, foolishness and desperate need to come out.
I am in such a funk these days with what I see andeven what I am starting to do. Time for a reality check....

It doesn't look like there is enough clearance between the corners of the trailer and the roof of the blazer to turn at all ??? !! Maybe they only had to move it a few feet in a straight line? Maybe if they stuck some wood blocks between the rear axel and frame to raise the back of the blazer up they would get enough clearance to turn :P ?? Anyway if it was me, I'd get the next size larger diameter S hooks on the reinforcing chains before I'd venture onto the interstate ;D !! Safety first and all, ya know... Leland

OK so this is another request of where people are located. I live in Western Kansas . I am curious if there are any other forum readers in Kansas and especially Western Knasas. Thanks, Mike

tacoma washington here, spent 5 years in liberal first half of the 80's, grew up nne of wichita about an hour
and plan on going back there in two more school years.
thats when the kid has to decide how much she wants to continue living with dad :)
stay here with friends and get on with life, or go live out in the sticks offgrid with dad?
hmmmm
somehow i think i already know the answer to that one.
:)

Now Bob... you know we're neighbors... No Really we're neighbors!
I'm located down south of you by about a half an hour. I'm enjoying the sticks about 10 miles south of Olympia Washington.
Was born and raised in this area, I struck out on my own after high school, came back when I was 36, wanted to be close to family, always enjoyed the company of my father and I wanted to share some time with him before the opportunity passed me by.
Have to say I'm much happier up here, spent most of my young adulthood in SoCal, nice place to visit, don't want to live there.

Tacoma here too, Bob. (up near Proctor district). Let's go swill some coffee and swap some lies one of these days.

Hi bob;
Murph and Mike;
You should visit Bob. He's got some cool projects to gander at, plus he's a fun guy to hang out with.
Scott
-
Well, I'm also in Tacoma.
And only a few blocks from Bob...
Steve
-
Well, shoot, we have enough in the area for a poker game!
Scott, I'd love to drive up and explore Bob's iron pile, just waiting for an invite! But what I'm really interested in seeing is his 5th wheel setup for towing that travel trailer. ;D

I'm game. Let's try to do it in the next month or so. I can make about any day of the week or weekend work out with a little advance planning. Gonna be out of town for a week the middle of September to Colorado.

Gee, I live in Elma--that's only about 25 miles further away...

Well Bob I lived in Liberal from 1990 till 2000. I now live in Dodge City. I was hoping to find someone in the general area to hang out with. Maybe I will just have to start my own Lister following for western KS. By the way Liberal has changed a bunch. Of course Dodge has changed and is getting to change even more. We will be getting a casino by the end of the year. YEA. :) :)
-
Bob I read you post a little better and noticed you grew up in Wichita. I was born and reised in Wichita. Moved out in the early 70's and have never had any desire to move back. If I read right when you move back you probably wont need all of your cool stuff. I know someone in Dodge looking for more toys. lol Let me know when you move you might need someone with a strong back and week mind. Mike

worked and lived in wichita for a couple years, but grew up in a little town NNE of there
about 60 miles, Florence.
left there in '78 and swore i would never return
i shouldn't ever say that!
shoulda said, "i would rather not return"
:)
not sure its a wise move however, the little town is about to blow away
i think all is left is the postoffice and little if anything else.

I ordered an international PU from there. The order was cancled because they quit making them. I had a boss when I worked at Heston KS that lived there. Evertt Cress I believe is how his name was spelled. He was a good guy to work for. i believe he is dead now. Your right Florence has just about dried up. That would be a good town to live off grid. You would probably have it better than most people around there. Mc Pherson and Newton are not far away. Lots of hunting and fishing in that area. Bob did you see my question about Lovejoy couplers. I will look to see if you answered. Have a "GREAT DAY".
-
my other thought was toward the center of chase county, a guy could get lost there pretty easily.
everett cress rings a bell, i can't quite remember him, but will ask my dad.
so you ordered an IH pickup for rodney williams there at williams IH service in florence?
yes they quit making and selling the IH pickups in '75 and the scouts in '80 or '81
hell for stout old trucks they were, and still are if you can find a good one.

I think IH had a great PU but trying to hold them together was a challenge. I was told EPA had something to do with thier demise. Dont know if that was true. I think that was also VW beetle dmise. A great vehicle. I have aquestion. I am a big suporter of breast cancer awareness. I work at the medical building at Dodge during the rodeo. There is a big push for tuff enough to wear pink. This is nation wide. Our hospital is a big suporter with several money events yearly. I thought of this idea today and you have to promice not to laugh. I guess I am probably the only lister owner in the area. There is a dealer about 80 miles away but I am not sure they really sell many. I saw a lister painted quite different than most engines. My idea is to get a single, hopefully fairly small and sandblast it and paint it pink. I would suppose there should be paint out there that would work for this. Then get the smallest gen set and hook up a light board with the phrase TUFF ENOUGH TO WEAR PINK. I would have this at all of the events running diring he events. I would advertise the listre engine and its dependability for a power plant. So this is open to everyone. First does anyone have a good idea what would be the best engine to use and where to find one real cheap. This will have to be carried on a small trailer so a TON of crete will not be an option. I would like to have this ready by next spring when the first event starts. It is a 24 hour walk a thon. this is just an idea and it always gives people a warm fuzzy feling when they might donate something for a good cause. I am not able to give a tax deduction for this. Ideas dont cost much. If nothing else I will do this on my own because my wifes mother died of breast cancer and I have had several friends die of it. i also know sveral people who are survivors. Mike
-
yes it was our beloved epa that killed the IH pickup
starting in '76 they would have had to qualify under the car standards and not truck standards they
had been under previously.
IH could see no reason to sink the money into making them compliant, although they did
for another 5 years or so with the scout.
it might have been because the 392 was not offered in the scout, and was a big seller in the pickup
and they probably figured they could not sell enough of the 304 and 345 powered pickups.
that 392 would go like hell if it was setup properly
and outpull a 454chev or a 460ford
as for a pink engine? no idea what you might use in your area, not sure what might be available
maybe look to the oil field guys for a hit/miss engine or similar?
my mother survived breast cancer twice, twenty years apart, and is still to busy to drop
my heart goes out to anyone fighting these terrible diseases
