Title: Changfa ZS195
Post by: Stan on March 26, 2006, 11:23:19 PM
That is the horizontal, hopper cooled version of the Changfa.  I'm sorry if I missed it but I haven't been paying much attention to the chinese diesels until my son informed me he was interested in building himself a good generator based on a water cooled diesel.  He also wants to know if anyone is running this engine (or similar ones) on waste veggie oil.  Or even if it is possible?

I know a fellow runing one on light sweet crude thats just filtered  RVO and WVO. Aside form carbon building up these engines seem as able to deal with it as the Listeroids.

we bought two of the r195 changfa's, set one up and tried different fuels,

diesel,,, runs perfect
ATF.. starts and runs same as diesel
hydraulic oil... starts and runs same as diesel
vegie oil... starts and runs same as diesel
10 weight engine oil... starts and runs as diesel
20 weight a bit slow to start, some smoke but soon clears, runs fine
30 weight ,, hard to start,,, smokes for about 30 seconds, but clears and runs fine.
havent tried waste vegie oil yet, but would be it will run on it just fine.

Hi Stan,

I have a Changfa 195 which I just got running on WVO yesterday.  It didn't even miss a beat when I switched from diesel to WVO.  I'm using a fattywagons injector line heater (http://www.fattywagons.com) to ensure that the WVO is up to temp before being injected.

You can see my progress so far at http://martin.nile.googlepages.com/

I also use the FattyWagon Injector Line Heater on my 16/1 when I'm burning WVO. I have found this GREATLY reduces the carbon build-up.

Stan,

Note that the smaller China diesels like the Changfa have indirect injection with prechambers (IDI) that apparently are better for using other heavy oils as fuel than direct injection engines.  The bigger engines are all direct injection type.  The demarkation line is somewhere around the 195 size.  Best to check.

All this past week I have been in the process of fabricating a fancy fuel processing system that will take WTF or used motor oil, use engine exhaust gasses to heat it and encourage water to fall out, then pass the heated oil through two filters, a 10 micron water trapping spin-on and then a big Caterpillar 2 micron spin-on fuel filter.  If it works, this unit with it`s 70 litre fuel tank will gravity feed my recently acquired IDI 175A Jiang Dong on a 2 kW genset. By scavenging exhaust gas heat I keep my coolant available to heat another room in the shop with a thermosiphon radiator.  Only first tests will tell if I get enough heat from my exhaust heat exchanger to make my `invention` a success.  My heat exchanger is also to serve the function of a muffler.
