Title: 3.5 Petteroid stories
Post by: mkdutchman on June 25, 2008, 09:20:10 PM
Dunno about any of the rest of you, but I'm in the mood for some 3.5 Petteroid stories, I'm just curious how people made out with them. Don't necessarily have to be negative or positive but if you bought a Petteroid and/or worked first hand on one of them, what is/was your experience with them?

Here's the condensed version of mine

The boss here at work bought a 3.5 through Joel Kuch some time ago, we stripped it down and did a general overhaul on it. We got one or two parts through Joel, but most of the time we were dealing with Ashmawegh. We got it running but it's chronic smoking and runaway problems started getting to us and we ended up buying a 6/1 Metro from Sam Crosby. worked great from the getgo so the 3.5 is to this day still sitting in the shop.

Had one painful experience with a genuine single cylinder Petter.

It was hard to start engine (that was before we used a B&S Petrol to start it :o) and one day it pre-ignited and ran backwards until the next compression stroke.  The crank handle was whipped out of my hand and firmly planted onto the inside of my left knee - that hurt.  X-rays showed no bone injury and physo said it looked good under examination.  Took 6-12 months before my knee came right, before the limp went away and I could walk for longer than 4 minutes at any time before resting.  That engine still sits where it was last used and has been replaced with a CS3-1.

If I knew then what I know now.  All it probably required was decarbonation.  Will do that one day, it's been on the list for 3yrs.
