I dont know what starter would interchange but it would be pretty small ifs its like the one on my changfa. While we are on the subject of starters can someone tell me how to put a flywheel on a small 4.5 hp changfa? I want to rig it up to a starter. The flywheel that is on the motor is about 91/2" in diameter. How could I attach a starter flywheel to that?

i  am not sure you are the guy that asked about a 195 starter today or not,,
but if i recall you are in the tacoma area

if so check with Hap at Standard Auto Electric he is located right next to the napa store on south tacoma way just up off of pacific avenue
i would bet a dollar to a dog turd he can fix you up with an exchange or parts to fix yours. 253-627-6744

just tell him i sent you,,, and tell him you are an offgrid guy :)  he is fascinated with us wierdo's :)

tell him he better get stocked up,, cause i want a couple spares for a 195 myself.

btw,, i don't know if it will make a difference to him or not, but check the rotation and make a note of it.
i never checked,, but it would be a shame to drive down there and be asked for rotation.

I need a 195 starter too! have a old wore out engine looking for a overhaul kit, starter etc.  this is a early 1980s engine took the old starter to napa warehouse, oriellys etc.  they were lost, its what i expected , they cant find a very very common fuel filter for my ford tractor either , i have to remember to bring the old box to prove they stock it.

Did you try any Kubota starters?

Strongly suspect the Chinese copied these engines well enough they may still share a comon starter with a Kub

Did you try a Starter Alternator rebuild place?

Odds are they might have some ideas

tried three  starter rebuild shops they all say hey this is  in chinese! we dont read no chinese.  whats this on? a what? even tried to get my local chinaman drycleaner  to translate still no luck,  next stop is one of the china tractor dealers maybe a chance  we need someone from the orient to help us i know there are  thousands of these things and this is probally a  common starter  if we can just figure it out.   from what i have seen i dont think anything kubota is going to be close  and if it was you could probally have a gold one made in china for the same price as the kubota dealer so  still looking for engines  and parts in texas olice

A lot of people say this is a German engine. No one has ever posted a picture of said German Engine and this is the oldest one I have ever seen.

been to the kubota dealer if there is a comparable starter they dont know of it.  there are probally several engines of this similiar design  japanese,  chinese and probally a similiar but not identical german deutz  and all  changed or modified alittle , so again back to the original request,  surely there is someone with a asian contact.                                                                                                                                                       i work with a guy who went to pakistan 2 years ago  in a very remote area to build small quonset hut style shelters because all of the permanent housing had pancake collapsed in a earthquake and winter was coming and all they had were tents anyway he saw these engines being carried in the mountains several days walk from the nearest jeep trail, he saw a fellow hand crank the engine by the belt  that powered a bandsaw the villagers hand got caught between the belt and the  pulley and cut off a finger  so the moral of this story is lets all pull together and find a  cheap starter replacement so we can save fingers all around the world.  "ten fingers olice" in texas
