JD165 - First Run
« on: October 16, 2018, 11:32:51 PM »
Hi All,

I just finished my latest project.
A small JD165 air cooled diesel driving a little 2.3 KW head.
The engine makes 3.7HP @ 3000 rpm but I slowed it down to 2000 rpm.
The noise is a little more tolerable when the engine is not screaming.
Fully loaded I expect it to make approx. 1.5 KW which is ideal for powering a refrigerator, freezer, and some light in a outage.
These little engines use very little fuel.

Here is a link to the latest Fall release from Veggie Film Productions  ;D

PS: The exhaust pipe is temporary. I have not yet figured out a muffler arrangement.

Nicely done. Is there still a source for these in North America? I have a little 1.25/1.5 KW gen head I am looking to do something with.

Same idea as you, will run the fridge, lights, and TV/Radio.

Thanks Bronco,
As far as I know they are not available due to revised EPA regulations.
Same goes for Canada. Craigs List or EBay may uncover the odd one.

Thanks Glort.
Ultimately I want to run it on Veg Oil. And according to your experiences, this should not be a problem with these engines.
(Provided I dose with water from time to time).

Does OZ allow you to import stationary diesels still.?
If so, these engines are available from several suppliers.

cheers,

Thanks 38ac,
If you open up the inspection cover on yours you will see that they are built like a brick toilet.
Very tough little engines.

Glort,
I was thinking the same thing about the pressure lube system.
I wondered how they lubricated the valve train when the cylinder is angled upward.
Must be a little gear pump in there somewhere.

When is the load test video coming out?  ;D

Will be interesting to see how it handles loads and what it will pull.

I hope to release "Tiny diesel 2" later in the fall.  ;)

Came across your new video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYVzJEbizWA

Looks nice with a proper muffler. What generator head is that? I noticed the 110>110/220 switch. That is a pretty nice option for such a small head.

Have you pulled any loads with it yet?

Thanks Bronco,

The generator head is made buy HC Motor (of China).
I imported a bunch of these a few years back. Sold most and kept 2 for myself.
This one is a mini 2.3 Kw unit and also has auxiliary 12 VDC windings (Notice the red/black connectors on the right side).
The generator engine runs a slow 2000 rpm and generates 1.2 kw of power for battery charging or electric car charging with a class#1 charging cable. If I changed the pulleys and ran the engine up to 2800 rpm it should be able to make approx 2kw.
In a power outage, this little guy charges a car.
