We have negotiated for the "Super sized" Listeroids, 20/1 and so on, on more than one occasion but ran into lack of cooperation for exporting when trying to combine loads from multiple vendors. Our biggest expenses on these have been getting past all the hoops and barriers for export/import. At some point we might deem it practical to commit a full container, but failing that, the simple lack of performance by one vendor can wreak havoc with the entire process and we cannot control what they do (or how they do it) beyond sending the money and praying everything goes well.

For me, the real problem comes down to a predictable control of the costs... Full containers are the way to go and combining products also helps us remain legitimate within bounds USA regulation.

How many folks in the USA are interested in the oversized machines? I think if we had a committment for 6 of them, I could renew those efforts. Or we could simply place the order and gamble with the details as to whether or not they can actually successfully get it past customs and whether or not the price gets doubled (or worse). I have had one heavy loss already due to overseas malfeasance (or at least incompetence), we cannot take any further losses at this time.

If there was enough demand/ purchase volume, you could have the things made in China.

They will build anything you ask and give them the specs for if you will commit to enough of them.
Guy over the road ran a parts shop and used to go over about 4 times a year. He'd usually take some OEM parts that had a High failure rater and higher cost and have a load of them made.  He said he'd give the part to different factories and they would come back with quotes and suggestions. He said they would often point out the part  that was the failure point on something they had never seen before and tell him that for an extra .10C/ $1 they could redesign that section so it would be much stronger.  He said anything they redesigned never failed again and clearly the manufacturers must have known and planned on the thing failing.

The guy reckons Chinese crap is simply what you pay for. You ask for the cheapest and you will get crap. You ask for quality and are prepared the $1 more they ask like it's a fortune and you'll get fantastic quality.  He says it's all about what you want to pay that determines what you get.
Imagine a lister that had all the weak design points rectified through your years of experience.  They would run decades without being cracked once!
AND.... The bastards would sit still and wouldn't want to walk themselves round the yard!  :embarassed:

With the Chinese you would be assured of getting the quality you wanted/ paid for and their commitment to world trade with their ports and customs efficiency would be a huge asset over the Indians.  They are very different peoples on their outlooks of a whole range of things, particularly  quality, pride and doing  business.
