The SOM solenoids are big and powerful! I'll be the current draw is impressive.

Closing the rack against the governor spring alone takes 10 lbs directly on the rack with an inch of travel on my Listeroid.  That's a serious effort for a solenoid.  I went to air cylinder to get the force I needed, and made my exhaust valve lifer a true lifter via air cylinder also.  Couldn't get my hands on a original SOM here in Arizona, so  had to improvise.

Very nice Mike, that is exactly the set up on my ST2, the solenoid on the right is connected to the injector pump rack while the one on the left links to the decompression levers on the cylinder head. Should work well for all ST models and probably the earlier SR models.

Interestingly the ST1 runs a 12volt starting battery while the ST2  runs a 24 volt battery, I am unsure if the solenoid windings would be different because of this.
