Hi Guys, Alibaba and ebay have some generator heads for sale but the quality is unknown. There are some businesses in Oz that sell 240 volt alternators but the mark up is excessive. Looking forward to Amazon expanding it`s interests I Australia. Good for the consumer lousy for the retailer, job losses and etc.

Can't Stand amazon.
Everything I have ever tried to order I have got the " Does not deliver to your country" or whatever crap.
Tried different accounts, different tricks, Never worked.

From what has been said here, the 3 phase heads are better than the singles.
Not sure whether it's better to have a single or 3 phase power in practicality, not a lot of 3 phase loads to run these days but If I get a 3 that does the output I want in single, all good.
Heard a lot about Imbalanced loads but experience leads me to believe it's a lot more beat up than a real concern.

I found a truck 24V, 80A alternator on the local Fleabay for a tad over $200.

That makes it roughly 2Kw and I have a very nice 2 KW inverter.
I'd really like a Leece Nevile and get one of those external Controllers  ( was that you that did the great paper on those Ade?) but the things are stupid expensive here.

I have never rang truck wreckers to see what they want for used alts because I never figured it would be anything but a waste of time. I fully expect I could get a new one from OS cheaper than the locals will part with one used.

Stationary engine parts in the UK sometimes have 2 bearing, 1500 RPM alternators and I believe they can get them to order as well. This is good value

Then there is this method that was mentioned here on LEF in a different thread. Looks like an inexpensive way to go.

Worth a look anyway!

I saw this a few months ago and I actually checked and you can buy a 4 bolt pillow bearing that lines up perfectly with the holes in the alternator end casing The bearing should be the same size as the shaft too . A taper lock pulley and Robert's your mothers brother

It's just a standard pillow block bearing if you're in the UK you can buy imperial or metric sizes.
