Hi, Bruce -
Yes, I used a Starter/Generator for a golf cart.  Worked well, for a while -- when I was only charging it's battery - but when I added the cooling fan to the radiator (with a thermostat/relay) the draw went up by 7 amps and I didn't have the voltage regulator adjusted to account for the added draw - soooo,  dead battery!  I disconnected the system for the time being ('til the power comes back on - hand cranking) - then I'll play around with adjusting the voltage regulator to get the correct charge rate - at my leisure!  It's hot as hell and the generator is still going strong.  Day 6 - 110 hours!

The big upside of all that time building your own generator setup...no matter what happens you are likely to keep her going!

Great looking setup QoJ, and I'm impressed with your safety guard, I need something similar.

I was also very pleased with mine during the hurricane aftermath!

I just didn't want to get all wound up in my work -- so to speak!  It's just a piece of expanded metal and some Insulation tube - pretty simple. --- Charlie
