Nice, when I did mine I took your advice and boiled it in a 40 gallon barrel, there was still enough carbon left over to put lead in a decent size pencil. Anyway, now the fun starts.

The best way I've found of getting the carbon from under my nails is doing the washing up.

We run a small B&B / ski chalet, if we have a full house over the weekend it's a full roast dinner on Sunday night.  Doing all the pots and pans that won't fit in the dishwasher sorts out my cuticles a treat!

A Chalet bitches work is never done............

Cheers

Thanks Butch! Maybe gets me inspired to get back on to some of my languishing projects along these lines. Just too busy lately working with new building/inventory/health issues.

Our shop has been turning out the little water-cooled Alpha engines about as fast as we can manage - trying to keep up with the DitchWitch clients who were dropped after the demise of Lister/Petter. Can't complain about being busy though... the alternative doesn't bear considering.   ;)

Fresh out of the wash cabinet is a late 6/1 that came in for rebuild.
I think all the black in the world hides inside hi houred CS engines?  No amount of scrubbing removes it from my hands, it just has to go away on its own. Thank goodness for the spray wash cabinet dont think I would enjoy the work if I had to do this with a pan of solvent and a brush.

Hey there 38ac

Butch - I'm thinking about your wonderful valve-events guide document.  Without peeing in your pocket I have to say that did great things to further my understanding of the process - and what is important and what is not in real-world terms.

My 6/1 has a noisy big-end and I don't feel I have a good grasp of the issues around clearance, crush and how the shims work and how to make good decisions around that stuff.  I think the journal's OK - has a couple of little scores; but it's a monster working surface and I hadn't intended to do anything to it

I'd appreciate any wisdom before I get in there and take it to bits

Cheers, Mike

Cool.  Thanks very much

I had been in denial, thinking maybe I could do an OK job through the inspection hatch in the case.

But, reading your thoughts, i will wait until it's concreted/bolted down in it's permanent (ish) home then take the barrel off so I can get at it properly

That description of the amount of lateral rock that is OK makes good sense

Thanks for taking the time to explain

Cheers, Mike

When mounted in the rod the big end bearing I. D. should be 2.000.
...

Isn't that going to be a little tight?  2.000 inch bearing on a 2.498 inch shaft?  I suspect you meant 2.500 here... that or I've totally missed something.

You are of course correct 2.500 shaft :police:

It does look like something from a George Lucas movie, LOL. It is the  "ball top" version of the L that as far as I know was only dispatched to Canada.

Or sell it as an over unity power generation prototype. That seems a very popular area for the technically impaired.

Carefull Bruce, everyone knows that Big Oil is monitoring sites like this in order to suppress any chance of a bloke in a shed developing an alternate power source

Keep it furtive, as Ed might say...........

My recent low frequency, low EMI inverter design can easily be shown to produce 30% more AC power than DC being used; most meters won't show the current spikes on the DC side properly and will under-report DC current significantly. When measured properly, it's actually 8% loss (92% efficient).

True RMS measurement of power in and out is highly dependent on waveform, frequency, and the test equipment.  This is the basis for many of the "over unity" frauds out there.  Some are more creative with hidden motors and such.  It's an entertaining field full of charlatans and their devoted followers.  Humans can and do believe strongly in almost anything with no rational proof or evidence.  And the well documented and well proven Dunning-Kruger effect insures that certainty will increase proportionally with ignorance; so whenever you are feeling quite certain you really have to question yourself.  Thus we have the world we do.

It's not easy being a human.

Wow!

I never heard of the Dunning Kruger effect, but having Googled it I can see where they're coming from.

The bloke who invented the Easy  Out stud remover must well worth a look at!
