Lister SL2 Oil Filtration

Hi All,

Doing a bit of setup maintenance on my lister SL2 SOM.

Doing an oil change and noticed there is no filter, so i realised much should settle in the sump. That in mind, i decided to remove the side plate and remove the muck and clean the gauze.
Lots of sludge in there.

I've compared the manual to the engine, and it looks to me like there is no strainer in this engine either!? Manual shows it the full width of the sump, but i have nothing.

Would some one have removed it?

  You could tap into the oil gallery and install a small micron bypass oil filter. Flow would have to be kept low to maintain oil pressure.

To my knowledge all of this range had a tubular oil pickup strainer situated in the front of the engine block at the oil pump inlet port. That mesh tube uses a spring-loaded cap to hold it in place and, yes, someone could have taken it out or simply left it out during servicing or overhaul.

Thanks for that, I thought it should be there. Id like to keep it original rather than adding filtration.

I have got the part number from the manual and have made a few enquiries so we shall see what happens!
