moving/lifting the 12/2
« on: November 17, 2016, 05:24:39 AM »
Hey guys I saw recently - and I think it was somewhere on this site, but could be wrong - a lifting eye built for a 12/2 or similar?

It must have just been a chance look as I can't find it again

But I think it was something like a piece of 16mm plate with maybe four holes to bolt down onto two l/h studs on the r/h head and two r/h studs on the l/h head, with an eye welded onto it?

Does anyone have any thoughts on, or experience of, a lifter like that?

I guess if it's well-made and snug it doesn't impose any sideways loads on the heads/barrels; and then, I guess, it's just a case of what the straight loading capacity of a 3/4" thread is - times four?

I'd appreciate any thoughts

Thanks, Mike

Here is what I use when I go shopping for twin cylinder Lister CS engines.

I made this lifting bracket so that it will fit either a single or twin cylinder CS. If you decide to use this approach then the most difficult aspect will be finding a 9/16" BSW tap, to tap holes in one end of  the two extension bars, though at a push you could possibly get away with 9/16" UNC.

On a twin I have a piece of steel bolted to the two head studs and a forged eye between them.

Zoom in and you can see it.  Has worked for me for years.  On a single, I use a choker strap around the cylinder.

Hi Bob

Thanks

That's pretty much what I had in mind - and it obviously works well.

Cheers, Mike
